New Delhi: An Indian Air Force Wing Commander has been accused of falling victim to a honey-trap operation allegedly orchestrated by a Pakistani intelligence network and sharing sensitive defence information. According to an investigation by the Delhi Police Special Cell and intelligence agencies, the officer, who was posted at an Air Force station along the western front, was allegedly contacted through social media by a Pakistani female agent. He was arrested on May 30 and is currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail. Investigators are examining whether the case is linked to a larger espionage network.
According to sources, the Air Force intelligence unit had detected suspicious social media activity involving the officer and subsequently shared confidential information related to the case with the Delhi Police. Investigators then examined his alleged contacts, digital communications and the exchange of sensitive information.
Woman Allegedly Contacted Officer During Personal Difficulties
According to the investigation, the Wing Commander was going through difficulties in his personal life when a woman allegedly contacted him through social media. Their interaction gradually increased, and they subsequently began communicating through video calls.
Investigators allege that the woman gradually gained the officer’s confidence and used the relationship to obtain sensitive military information. Agencies claim that she operated under the fake identity of “Isha Sharma” and was allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based network.
The officer is also alleged to have remained in contact with Pakistani handlers through social media for nearly two years in exchange for financial benefits. Investigators are examining the nature and frequency of these communications.
Alleged Sharing of Military Movement and Deployment Data
The investigation alleges that after gaining his confidence, the Wing Commander shared photographs and videos related to the movement and deployment of military units through digital channels. He is also accused of sharing certain important documents.
Investigators are now trying to determine exactly how much sensitive information was allegedly shared, when it was transmitted and how the information could have been used. Digital devices and communication records are being examined as key pieces of evidence.
Authorities are also investigating whether the information allegedly shared by the officer was specifically requested by his handlers or whether it was transferred as part of a broader effort to collect defence-related intelligence.
Alleged Attempt to Install Spyware on Associate’s Phone
Another aspect of the investigation concerns the officer’s alleged cyber activities. Investigators have accused him of attempting to install data-stealing spyware on the mobile phone of an associate.
The alleged spyware was reportedly intended to provide access to information stored on the device. Investigators are examining the purpose of the software, how it was obtained and whether any sensitive information was actually accessed or extracted.
Mobile phones, social media accounts and other digital devices connected to the case are being examined to establish the full sequence of events and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved.
Chargesheet Filed on July 30
After completing the investigation, authorities filed a chargesheet against the Wing Commander in court on July 30. He remains in judicial custody while investigators continue examining his alleged links with Pakistani handlers and other members of the suspected network.
The case is considered particularly sensitive because it involves an officer associated with the defence establishment and alleged sharing of information relating to military deployments. Investigators are also examining the social-engineering techniques allegedly used by the Pakistani handlers to establish contact with the officer and gradually gain his trust.
The investigation is focused on determining whether the accused acted alone or was part of a wider espionage operation.
Similar Honey-Trap Case Reported in Alwar
This is not the first case in which an individual has allegedly been targeted through a honey-trap operation for espionage. Last year, Alwar resident Mangat Singh was arrested on allegations of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Investigators had alleged that he too was trapped by a Pakistani female handler through a honey-trap operation.
In the latest case, investigators are not limiting their probe to the role of the arrested officer. They are examining suspected handlers, digital communications, financial transactions and the information allegedly shared to determine whether a larger organised espionage network was operating behind the case.
Authorities are also attempting to identify other individuals who may have facilitated communication, financial transfers or the movement of sensitive information. The findings of the digital and forensic examination are expected to determine the wider scope of the alleged espionage operation.
