Hyderabad City Police have arrested three people for allegedly supplying mule bank accounts to cybercriminals in exchange for commissions ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 per account kit.

Investigators identified 83 suspicious bank accounts across 22 branches, with 11 accounts linked to 14 cyber fraud transactions involving approximately ₹10.04 crore across multiple states. Two additional suspects are absconding.

How Did Police Uncover the Network?

The arrests were carried out by the Hyderabad City Police Task Force, Charminar Zone, in coordination with Attapur Police.

Investigators found that the accused allegedly arranged bank accounts and supplied their banking kits to cybercriminals for financial gain.

The suspected operation involved multiple bank branches, allowing fraudsters to receive and transfer money through accounts belonging to other individuals.

How Were Mule Accounts Supplied?

According to investigators, the accused allegedly received between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000 for each account kit supplied to the network. These kits could include bank passbooks, ATM cards, SIM cards linked to accounts and other banking credentials.

Such arrangements allow criminals to receive money from victims without directly using their own bank accounts, making financial transactions more difficult to trace.

What Did the Financial Investigation Reveal?

Police identified 83 mule accounts spread across 22 bank branches.

Of these, 11 accounts were reportedly connected to 14 cyber fraud transactions involving approximately ₹10.04 crore. The transactions were associated with complaints registered in different states, indicating that the suspected network extended beyond Hyderabad.

Investigators are examining the accounts to establish the movement of funds and identify other individuals involved.

What Action Is Being Taken Against Other Suspects?

Police said two additional accused involved in the alleged operation remain absconding.

Efforts are continuing to trace them and examine possible connections between account suppliers and cybercriminals operating across multiple states. The investigation has not yet established the complete financial extent of the suspected network.

Why Are Mule Accounts Dangerous?

Mule accounts are used to receive, transfer or withdraw money associated with suspected illegal transactions.

Individuals who rent or sell their bank accounts for commissions may face account freezes, police investigations and criminal proceedings, depending on their involvement.

Handing over banking credentials can expose account holders to serious financial and legal risks.
