New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued a notice to SAJ Food Products over claims displayed on the packaging of its Eat Fit Digestive Biscuits, raising concerns that certain marketing statements may be misleading to consumers. The company has been directed to submit its response within seven days.
100% Atta Claim Under Lens
The regulatory action follows a consumer complaint alleging that the biscuit package prominently displays the claim “100% Atta”, while the ingredient list reportedly states that wheat flour constitutes only about 72.33 per cent of the product.

FSSAI is examining whether the claim accurately represents the product’s composition or has the potential to mislead consumers.
No Added Sugar Claim Questioned
The regulator has also questioned the product’s “No Added Sugar” claim. According to the notice, although the label states that no sugar has been added separately, the product contains ingredients such as maltodextrin and glucose syrup solids.
FSSAI is assessing whether the claim provides sufficient transparency or could create a misleading impression regarding the product’s sugar content.
Digestive Health Branding Examined
Another aspect under scrutiny is the branding of the product as “Eat Fit Digestive Biscuits.” The regulator has stated that any claim suggesting digestive or health benefits must be supported by appropriate scientific evidence.
The notice asks the company to explain why action should not be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, if the claims are found to violate regulatory requirements.
At present, the notice is part of an ongoing regulatory process, and no conclusion has been reached regarding any alleged violation. FSSAI will review the company’s response before deciding whether further regulatory or legal action is warranted.
