MUMBAI: In a significant win against cyber fraud, the Mumbai Police have managed to block around Rs 1.49 crore within 24 hours after receiving 110 complaints on the national cyber helpline ‘1930’. The seizures were made following quick action by the city’s cybercrime unit after victims called in with reports of scams ranging from investment frauds to fake online shopping deals.
A crime branch official said that all the complaints were received on Friday. Each case was acted upon promptly, with the cybercrime team working to contact the relevant banks before the fraudsters could move the money to other accounts. “It included investment scams, share trading frauds, and online purchase frauds,” the official added.

The swift action highlights the increasing importance of the 1930 helpline, which has emerged as a frontline defence for citizens targeted by digital criminals. Officials urged people to call the helpline as soon as they realize they’ve been duped, as early reporting significantly increases the chances of freezing the stolen funds before they’re siphoned off completely.
With online scams becoming increasingly sophisticated, law enforcement emphasized the need for vigilance and public awareness. While recovery isn’t always guaranteed, the success in this case shows that fast reporting can make a major difference.
