A name that is now dominating headlines across Uttar Pradesh and beyond is that of YouTuber Anurag Dwivedi. Once a teenager cycling through village lanes, the 26-year-old from a small village in Unnao district is today at the centre of a major probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), following searches at multiple locations linked to him.

The ED has conducted raids at 10 locations across Unnao, Lucknow and Delhi, freezing bank deposits worth ₹3 crore, seizing four luxury cars, and recovering ₹20 lakh in cash along with documents. Investigators are probing alleged links to illegal online betting, hawala transactions, and real estate investments in Dubai—allegations that have brought Dwivedi’s rapid rise under sharp scrutiny.

A modest background

Anurag Dwivedi hails from Nawabganj area of Unnao, around 27 km from the district headquarters. His father, Laxminath Dwivedi, runs a small medical store named Maa Durga Medical Store, opened in 2005. The family also owns a house spread over nearly three bighas in Khajur village, reportedly equipped with CCTV cameras and a large gated entrance.

Born in 1999, Anurag studied up to Class 8 at CMS School in Lucknow. He enrolled in Class 9 but soon dropped out and returned to Unnao. After brief stints at other schools, he eventually cleared Class 9 from JP Convent School, but did not pursue further education.

A troubled early phase

According to his father, Anurag showed little interest in academics. In a revealing account, Laxminath Dwivedi told media that his son had once stolen a gold chain from a relative, sold it, and bought a mobile phone—an incident the family came to know of only later.

That mobile phone, however, became the starting point of Anurag’s digital journey.

Building an online following

Using the phone, Anurag launched a YouTube channel, slowly building an online presence. At one point, his channel reportedly had around 3,500 subscribers, which later grew substantially as he ventured into content linked to fantasy sports and online platforms.

His father claims that Anurag is a regular income tax payer and that the ED did not find any incriminating material during the searches—an assertion that will now be tested during the ongoing investigation.

The Dubai wedding that drew attention

The spotlight intensified after Anurag’s lavish wedding in Dubai on November 21–22, 2025. The ceremony was held aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, a luxury cruise-turned-hotel. Around 100 guests reportedly attended, with Anurag bearing the entire cost of flights, accommodation and hospitality for a five-day stay.

Videos and images from the event—featuring high-end arrangements and celebrity appearances—went viral, and are widely believed to have triggered complaints that eventually reached enforcement agencies.

Passion for luxury cars

Anurag himself has stated that he bought his first car on February 25, 2019. Thereafter, he purchased at least one new car every year, sometimes even two in a single year.

His garage has reportedly included vehicles such as:

  • Maruti Dzire
  • BMW
  • Ford Endeavour
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Mahindra Thar
  • BMW Z4
  • Land Rover Defender
  • Lamborghini

He later sold some vehicles, including the Defender and BMW Z4, to manage EMIs when income reportedly declined.

Money, tax and claims

According to his father, Anurag has paid nearly ₹5 crore in income tax over the past three years, arguing that such tax payments naturally imply assets worth ₹30–40 crore. The family maintains that the Dubai wedding and visible display of wealth led to jealousy-driven complaints.

Anurag has claimed that all his earnings are legitimate and taxed, stating that certain fantasy sports earnings were routed through a relative’s PAN card, on which taxes were duly paid. He has also said that some apps he was associated with were legal at the time and were shut down only recently.

What lies ahead

The ED, however, is continuing its probe into alleged illegal betting networks, money laundering routes and overseas investments. Investigators are examining digital trails, financial transactions and international links to establish whether Dwivedi’s wealth was built through lawful means.

From a school dropout in rural Unnao to a YouTuber with supercars and a Dubai cruise wedding, Anurag Dwivedi’s story is one of extraordinary rise—and now, intense scrutiny. As enforcement agencies dig deeper, the case highlights the thin line between digital-age success and the regulatory red flags that come with sudden, conspicuous wealth.
