Dehradun / Lucknow: A banking fraud case has been registered at the Cantonment police station after Lucknow resident Kushboo Devi alleged that gold jewellery worth nearly ₹20 lakh, pledged in her name under a gold loan, was fraudulently released from a bank through impersonation and forged identity details. The complaint names her husband, Praveen Kumar, a bank manager and an unidentified woman in connection with the alleged fraud.
Woman Claims Another Person Was Presented As Wife
According to the FIR, Praveen Kumar allegedly colluded with bank officials and presented another woman as his wife inside the bank branch. The unidentified woman was allegedly used to complete verification formalities and sign documents in place of the actual account holder.

The complainant alleged that this enabled the release of the pledged gold jewellery without her consent. Police are examining whether forged signatures, fake identity details and misuse of internal banking procedures were used to complete the transaction.
Bank Message Led To Discovery
Kushboo Devi stated that she first came to know about the matter on February 9, 2026, after receiving a message from the bank related to the gold loan account. When she contacted the bank, officials initially claimed that she had collected the jewellery herself.
On further inquiry, she was allegedly informed that another woman had visited the branch and completed the release process using forged identification. The complainant then approached the police, following which a case was registered against Praveen Kumar, the bank manager and the unidentified woman.
Police Examine Records, CCTV Footage
Police officials said the roles of the bank manager and other unidentified persons are under scrutiny. Investigators are examining bank records, CCTV footage and transaction logs to determine how the jewellery was released in a secured banking environment.
A digital forensic team has also been deployed to analyse call records, mobile data and transaction histories linked to the accused. Officials are verifying whether forged documents were created using insider access or external sources.
The case has raised concerns over verification lapses in gold loan processing. Investigators are also checking whether similar complaints exist in other branches or districts, while further arrests have not been ruled out as the probe progresses.
