IAS Officer Deepak Virmani Ends Term at I4C, Takes New Role in MHA UT Division
Deepak Virmani, a dynamic and energic bureaucrat joined the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center in its initial stage when it was a Central Government’s Scheme. Owing to his experience and expertise in ‘navigating’ and ‘getting things done’, I4C made an exponential growth in a very short span; especially in administrative matters. He was one of the key contributors in converting the I4C scheme into an attached office of Ministry of Home Affairs.
Coming from an engineering background from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, it was easier for him to grasp the issue of technology-based crimes. Some of the major contribution of Director Deepak Virmani along with his team include:
- Expansion of 1930 Cybercrime Helpline:
1930 helpline was operational in only in some States. Leading efforts to foster cooperative federalism and continuous collaborations with States, the helpline is now operational in entire India.
- Joint Cybercrime Coordination Teams:
Seven JCCTs constituted for joint action against domestic cybercrime hotspots. These teams have helped dissolve State boundaries in tackling cross border crimes.
- Cyber Literacy
Partnerships with various training academies, NCERT, UGC, Universities etc for increasing cyber literacy.
- Banking and social media Abuse
Active meetings with banks, fintechs, social media intermediaries to curb the misuse of cybercrimes. Many important advisories have been issued on the same.
- Cyber Hygiene
Collaboration with iGoT Karmayogi, Ministries to spread Cyber Hygiene in Citizens.
- Expansion of Cyber Dost social media handle
During his tenure, Cyberdost expanded from X to multiple social media platforms like Public, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc.
Stakeholders of Cyber Space Protection will definitely feel the vacuum of such energetic officer. Team FCRF and The 420 wishes best luck for Shri Deepak Virmani’s future endeavors.
