HYDERABAD: Survivors of a harrowing cyber slavery racket in Myanmar have revealed the brutal conditions they endured—18-hour workdays without breaks, relentless physical abuse, and mental torment.
In a major rescue operation on March 10–11, the Indian government repatriated 540 citizens trapped in cyber fraud compounds in Myawaddy, Myanmar. Among them, 24 individuals hail from Telangana. The Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has since launched an extensive probe into the trafficking network.
Nine Cases Registered, Investigation Underway
So far, 10 victims have come forward to file complaints, leading to the registration of nine cases across Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPSs) in the state. Authorities are now actively investigating the role of intermediaries who lured victims with promises of lucrative overseas jobs, only to force them into sophisticated cyber scam operations targeting US nationals.

Brutal Exploitation and Torture
Victims described the horrific conditions inside these scam compounds. Those who failed to meet daily scamming targets were subjected to extreme punishments.
“They forced us to remain motionless under the scorching sun for hours—it was agonizing, both physically and mentally,” one survivor recounted in his police complaint. “Frog jumps over 200 meters was another form of torture they inflicted. My body was pushed beyond its limits.”
Another victim detailed how, after failing to meet fraud quotas, his work hours were extended to 18 hours per day, with no weekly breaks. “They snatched away my only day off and enforced unbearable punishments. The physical abuse was relentless,” he alleged.
Crackdown on Human Traffickers
Authorities are now focusing on identifying the domestic intermediaries responsible for facilitating the trafficking of Indian citizens into these scam networks. The investigation aims to dismantle the syndicates that operate these cyber fraud rings and hold them accountable.
With more victims expected to step forward, the revelations paint a grim picture of the growing menace of cyber slavery—where victims are not just exploited financially but also subjected to inhumane physical and psychological torture.
