The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested K K Soni, Assistant Garrison Engineer with the Military Engineering Services in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹93,000 from a contractor’s representative for clearing pending bills.
Complaint Filed by Contractor’s Firm Supervisor
According to the CBI, the case was registered on July 3 on the basis of a complaint filed by a supervisor working with a contractor’s firm. The complainant alleged that Soni had demanded ₹93,000 to clear the firm’s pending bills.
The supervisor allegedly paid ₹40,000 to Soni earlier. He further stated in the complaint that he was asked to bring the remaining ₹53,000 on Saturday.
CBI Lays Trap on July 4
On July 4, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed, according to the agency. The arrest followed the complaint and the alleged demand for the remaining amount.
The case concerns the alleged use of official position to demand payment for clearing bills linked to the contractor’s firm.
Cash Recovered During Search
The agency also recovered ₹40,000 from the accused’s residence in the MES area of Manali. Officials said the search operation was continuing.
According to officials, ₹10 lakh in unaccounted cash was recovered from the premises during the search. Further investigation in the bribery case is underway.
