The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has launched a multilingual, always-on WhatsApp chatbot to bring key transport-related services to citizens’ smartphones. From checking challan status and vehicle registration to renewing driving licenses and road tax payments, the chatbot empowers users to complete essential RTO functions without the need to queue at physical offices.
Built with integration into the central Vahan and Sarthi databases, the chatbot ensures real-time, authenticated data for every interaction. Whether it’s verifying vehicle ownership or tracking application status, the digital interface mirrors the effectiveness of physical offices—minus the red tape.
Brajesh Narain Singh’s Vision for Citizen-Centric Tech
At the center of this innovation is Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh, who emphasized the chatbot’s potential to redefine citizen experience.
“This WhatsApp chatbot reflects our commitment to using technology for citizen welfare,” Singh said.
He highlighted that the move was not just about convenience, but about responsive, transparent governance. “It brings the department closer to the public and is a step towards transparent, efficient, and responsive governance,” he added.

Singh has long advocated for reforms that cut bureaucracy and simplify service delivery. Under his leadership, the chatbot not only eliminates repetitive RTO visits but also embraces inclusivity by supporting multiple Indian languages.
How It Works and What Citizens Gain
To access the service, users simply need to save 8005441222 on their phone and send a “Hi” on WhatsApp. Instantly, a menu of services becomes available—from ownership transfer and fee payments to status checks and license applications.
The chatbot’s design prioritizes:
-
24×7 Accessibility
-
Step-by-step Guidance
-
Multilingual Support
-
Legally Compliant Data
By eliminating confusion, reducing paperwork, and speeding up resolution, the chatbot marks a bold stride in UP’s digital transformation journey.
