BILASPUR:   A young man staged an unusual protest at a housing board office after his property mutation file allegedly remained untraceable for more than a year, scattering almonds across a government officer’s desk to highlight what he described as repeated administrative failure.

The complainant, Tarun Sahu, said he had bought an EWS flat through resale around a year ago, but the mutation process is still incomplete because the file cannot be found. He said repeated visits and follow-ups produced no result, leaving him unable to secure formal ownership.

File Missing for Over a Year

Sahu said each time he visited the office, he was told that the file was lost. Expressing frustration over the delay, he questioned how long the situation could continue. The incident took place at the office of a Sub-Registrar officer, where he said officials had failed to locate the documents despite repeated reminders.

The matter centres on a missing file linked to the mutation of the flat. Without the necessary paperwork, the transfer process has not been completed, effectively holding up the ownership formalities.

Almond Protest Draws Attention

In a symbolic gesture meant to draw attention to the issue, Sahu brought almonds and scattered them across the desk of the Sub-Registrar officer. The act was intended to mock what he portrayed as the department’s failure to “remember” or trace his file, drawing on the common association of almonds with improving memory.

The protest reportedly left onlookers at the office surprised and quickly drew attention from both staff and visitors. What began as an individual expression of frustration soon became the focal point of the office.

Viral Incident Fuels Accountability Debate

The protest has since circulated widely on social media, prompting discussion around bureaucratic delay and accountability in public offices. Reactions online pointed to the difficulties many citizens face while dealing with paperwork and pending official processes.

Sahu has urged the authorities to step in, trace the missing file and complete the mutation process without further delay. The episode has added to wider public concern over how routine administrative lapses can leave citizens waiting for basic legal and ownership formalities.
