Bhopal Lokayukta Raid Uncovers Rs 3 Crore in Cash, Assets from Constable House

BHOPAL: In a significant crackdown on disproportionate assets, the Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment (SPE) raided the residence of former transport constable Saurabh Sharma in Bhopal’s upscale Arera Colony. The raid revealed a staggering Rs 2.5 crore in cash, along with gold, silver jewelry, and documents linked to substantial movable and immovable properties. Officials estimate the total assets to be worth Rs 3 crore.
According to ADG-Lokayukta Jaideep Prasad, simultaneous searches were conducted at two of Sharma’s properties early Thursday morning. The operation also extended to the residence of his alleged associate, Chandan Singh Gaur, and a hotel Sharma reportedly owns.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint against Sharma, who had taken voluntary retirement (VRS) a year ago after serving 12 years in the transport department. Reports indicate that Sharma ventured into the real estate sector even while in government service, raising suspicions of illicit wealth accumulation.
The Lokayukta’s probe has uncovered evidence of Sharma’s extensive property holdings across multiple districts, including Bhopal. Officials have also traced investments in a hotel and a school, further linking Sharma to high-value ventures.
This case highlights the Lokayukta’s relentless efforts to curb corruption and bring to light the misuse of public office for personal gain.
