BENGALURU: An Instagram post inadvertently exposing an identity card has led to a fraud case in Bengaluru, after a city-based musician’s credentials were allegedly misused to sell Indian Premier League tickets in the black market.
Identity Exposure Through Social Media Post
The incident traces back to March 28, when the guitarist shared photos from an opening match on Instagram. In the process, the front side of his official ID card was accidentally revealed. The musician, identified as Hemanth K B of the band Sakkare Mitaayi, had been performing at Royal Challengers Bengaluru home matches at the Platinum Lounge inside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the band had been issued official ID cards by event partner DNA Entertainment.

Fraud Linked to Misuse of Credentials
On April 6, the band’s drummer, Pruthvi, received a call from organisers stating that the same ID card had surfaced in a black ticket racket. The caller alleged that tickets were being sold illegally using the musician’s identity credentials and advised reporting the matter to authorities.
Subsequently, an unidentified individual allegedly used the exposed ID details to collect Rs 4,875 through UPI from unsuspecting buyers. Investigators traced the transaction to a specific mobile number and transaction ID linked to the suspect.
Police Probe Underway Into Ticket Racket
The guitarist approached the police the following day and denied any involvement in the racket, stating he had no knowledge of how his identity had been misused. He later deleted the social media post that had revealed the ID card.
Cubbon Park police have registered a case and are currently tracking the individual responsible for the fraud.
