A 17-year-old Class 9 student died by suicide late Tuesday night in Bareilly after a video of her recorded outside a local hotel went viral on social media platforms. The victim, who worked at a clinic operated by a female doctor in her village, was found hanging by her family members around 6 AM on Wednesday. Police officers arrived at the scene, conducted an initial inspection, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination following videography and photography procedures.
Brother Alleges Gangrape and Religious Conversion Scheme
The victim’s family, who reside in a village under the Bithari Chainpur police station area, has filed a formal complaint alleging gangrape, threats, and forced religious conversion. The victim’s brother alleged that a local female doctor was involved in entrapping young Hindu women and facilitating introductions to Muslim men. According to the complaint, one such introduction led to a relationship with a local youth.
The brother alleged that on July 21, the youth and an associate took the victim to the Blue Diamond Hotel located on the Delhi-Lucknow highway, where she was gangraped. As they were exiting the premises, activists associated with Hindu Sena confronted them and began recording videos and taking photographs.
Video Circulation Leads to Village Defamation
Visuals recorded at the Blue Diamond Hotel-Resort show a young woman wearing a printed blue-green suit and a face mask standing near a motorcycle in the parking lot. As individuals began questioning the group while filming, the girl attempted to conceal her face from the camera while her companions tried to leave. Hotel security and staff eventually intervened, managing the situation and asking the individuals recording the video to leave the premises.
The recorded footage was later circulated on social media alongside text alleging that the hotel rented rooms on an hourly basis without verifying identification documents. According to the victim’s brother, the online spread of the video led to widespread social distress and defamation in their village, driving the teenager to end her life in her room.
Police Initiate Investigation Against Multiple Accused
Following the complaint, law enforcement authorities initiated an official investigation targeting the female doctor, the owner of the Blue Diamond Hotel, and other named individuals.
Circle Officer (Highway) Devesh Singh stated that police received information regarding the suicide around 6 AM on Wednesday. A police field unit inspected the site before lowering the body for post-mortem processing by a medical panel, with full investigative proceedings currently underway.
