Barabanki police have arrested six people for allegedly impersonating the owner of a 13-bigha agricultural plot, executing a fraudulent sale deed and cheating a buyer of ₹45 lakh. Investigators are searching for other suspected members of the land fraud racket.

Accused Posed as Genuine Landowner

According to police, the complainant’s son was shown a 13-bigha plot in Dereraja village by the accused. During the transaction, one of the suspects, identified as Banshi, was allegedly presented as the legitimate landowner, Banshilal.

Relying on the alleged misrepresentation, the buyer agreed to purchase the property for ₹45 lakh. The sale deed was subsequently registered in the name of Krishnavati at the Sirauligauspur tehsil office.

Fraud Discovered During Possession Attempt

The alleged fraud came to light when the complainant and his son visited the property after registration to take possession. They reportedly discovered that the person introduced as the owner was not the rightful landholder.

Police suspect that forged identity papers and fabricated property documents were used to complete the registration. The complainant later approached the authorities and lodged a formal complaint.

Following an investigation, Badosarai Police arrested Sunil Kumar Verma alias Sushil, Ravinandan Dwivedi, Vinod Kumar, Rajkumar, Nandkishore and Banshi. The six are accused of conspiring to execute the fraudulent registry and deceive the purchaser.

Officers also recovered a Swift car allegedly used in connection with the offence. Investigators are examining whether the accused carried out similar property frauds or targeted other buyers using the same method.

Police are scrutinising land registration records, ownership papers, identity documents and financial transactions linked to the deal. The arrested accused are being questioned, while searches are continuing for other suspected members of the alleged racket.

Further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the investigation, police said.
