The Bihar Economic Offences Unit has arrested Pramod Kumar in an alleged biometric verification fraud during the NEET re-examination.

How did the alleged NEET examination fraud occur?

Pramod Kumar, a resident of Jahan village under Halsi police station in Lakhisarai district, is accused of conspiring with biometric personnel to allow impersonators to enter an examination centre in place of registered candidates. The EOU said he was sent to judicial custody on Saturday after interrogation.

Investigators allege that Pramod secured a contract for biometric verification at NEET re-examination centres in Lakhisarai through Vikas Kumar and Rahul. He allegedly misused the arrangement by coordinating with other accused individuals and personnel responsible for checking candidates’ identities.

According to the EOU, Pramod worked with Mohammad Shahzad, Subodh, Rohit Kumar alias Murari and other biometric personnel to facilitate the entry of impersonators at Kendriya Vidyalaya Khagaul. These individuals, described as “scorers” in the case, allegedly appeared in place of the original candidates.

The investigation is examining how the identity verification process was allegedly manipulated and how the accused coordinated their activities. The EOU is also looking into the roles of personnel deployed at the examination centre.

What other cases are linked to the re-examination?

Two additional cases were registered at Kawaiya police station in Lakhisarai over alleged irregularities during the NEET re-examination held on June 21. The EOU said Pramod’s alleged involvement had also emerged in these cases.

Investigators are examining possible links among the accused and the circumstances in which impersonators allegedly gained access to examination centres. The agency is also looking into whether biometric records were manipulated and how the alleged arrangements were organised.

The probe is focused on identifying those who allegedly facilitated impersonation and establishing the sequence of events. The EOU is continuing to collect evidence to determine the extent of the alleged irregularities.

How many people have been named in the case?

The EOU has named 27 people as accused, including candidates, impersonators and biometric operators. A chargesheet has already been filed against 14 individuals arrested earlier in connection with the alleged fraud.

Following Pramod’s arrest, investigators are continuing to examine the roles of the remaining accused and the possible network involved in the case. The agency is seeking evidence to establish how the alleged manipulation took place and who was responsible.

The filing of a chargesheet does not establish guilt. The allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial proceedings, and their responsibility will be determined on the basis of evidence presented before the court.

Why is the EOU questioning Rohit Kumar alias Murari?

Separately, the EOU has begun questioning Rohit Kumar alias Murari after obtaining his custody on remand from jail. Rohit is alleged to be an associate of Pramod in the NEET re-examination fraud case.

He is also an accused in a separate recruitment fraud case involving the selection of prohibition constables, jail warders and mobile squad constables in Bihar’s Nawada district. The alleged irregularities in that recruitment process took place on June 14, 2026. A total of 15 accused, including Rohit, were arrested in connection with that case.

The EOU is questioning Rohit about both matters to determine whether there are common associates, links or similarities in the alleged methods used. Investigators hope the questioning will clarify his alleged role in the NEET case and establish whether the two investigations have any connections.

Further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the ongoing investigations.
