The police in Bareilly have registered a fresh fraud case against Kanhaiya Gulati, the absconding director of Canviz company, taking the total number of cheating cases filed against him in the district to 100. The latest first information report was lodged at the CB Ganj police station following a directive from a local court. Gulati and his wife stand accused of duping a local family of ₹10 lakh under the pretext of an investment scheme that promised to double their money within 22 months. Gulati carries a cash reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest, and authorities have already secured an Interpol Red Corner Notice against him as efforts to trace his whereabouts continue.
Family Duped on Promise of Doubling Returns in 22 Months
The complainant, identified as Karan from Mohanpur Rampur in the Bithri Chainpur police station area, approached the court after the local police and district administrative authorities failed to act on his written complaints. According to the complaint, several acquaintances from Karan’s village introduced him to Gulati. The director took him to the Canviz corporate office, where Gulati and his wife presented several lucrative investment schemes and guaranteed substantial financial returns.
Convinced by these assurances, Karan transferred ₹8 lakh through online transactions on multiple dates. His son, Nitin Patel, and daughter, Parul Patel, deposited ₹1 lakh each, bringing the family’s total investment to ₹10 lakh. To secure their trust, Gulati handed over three post-dated guarantee cheques amounting to ₹10 lakh, assuring them the principal sum would double in 22 months. Once the term elapsed, the family received neither the promised returns nor the invested capital. Subsequent attempts to contact the director proved futile, as the company office and residential premises were found locked, with Gulati, his wife, and their son having absconded.
Multi-Agency Probe Intensifies Against Absconding Director
The CB Ganj police have initiated a detailed inquiry into the digital money trail, the authenticity of the cheques issued, and the marketing documents circulated by Canviz company. The broader investment operation run by Gulati is already under scrutiny by multiple specialized law enforcement wings. The Special Investigation Team, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Economic Offences Wing are conducting parallel investigations to trace the financial transactions and uncover the total funds collected from thousands of depositors across the state.
Despite coordinated efforts, Gulati remains untraceable. The state police announced a bounty of ₹50,000 for any actionable information leading to his apprehension, while central authorities initiated a Red Corner Notice to restrict his movement across international borders.
Police Scan Financial Records and Associate Networks
The investigation gained renewed traction last month after an online video conference emerged, showing Gulati interacting remotely with two associates. Acting swiftly on the digital footprints of that meeting, the police arrested both associates and remanded them to judicial custody, though Gulati managed to evade arrest.
Investigators at CB Ganj are now reconstructing the chronological sequence of the ₹10 lakh transaction, analyzing bank server records, and documenting the fraudulent representations made during the investment pitch. Officers stated that the fresh FIR will be integrated with the broader dossier of 100 cases filed against Gulati in Bareilly, strengthening the prosecution case against the network of Canviz company.
