Lucknow. The 2023 Nursing Officer recruitment at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has come under scrutiny once again following complaints of alleged irregularities. The Special Task Force (STF) has begun examining files and documents related to the recruitment of 1,276 Nursing Officers. The investigation is expected to cover the role of officials involved in the recruitment process, alleged changes in the examination system, verification of certificates submitted by selected candidates and allegations that candidates from Uttar Pradesh were allegedly overlooked.
Several public representatives from both the ruling party and the Opposition had raised questions over the recruitment. MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh, MLC Shailendra Pratap Singh and Congress MLA Virendra Chaudhary, among others, had alleged irregularities in the selection process and sought an investigation. The complaints also raised concerns that some certificates submitted by candidates selected from other states could be questionable or potentially fraudulent. The STF is now examining the documents submitted during the recruitment process as part of its inquiry.

One of the key aspects under scrutiny is the alleged change in the examination procedure after the recruitment advertisement had already been issued. According to the complaints, the examination method was changed during the selection process and was conducted through an OMR-based manual system. The STF is expected to determine when and at what level the examination procedure was changed, which official or committee approved the decision and whether the change was made in accordance with the applicable recruitment rules.
The examination process itself is likely to be examined in detail. Investigators may look into records related to question paper preparation, allocation of examination centres, candidate attendance, custody and handling of OMR sheets, evaluation and preparation of the final results. Details of officials and employees involved in conducting the examination may also be collected. The objective will be to establish whether the examination was conducted according to the prescribed procedure or whether rules were allegedly bypassed at any stage.
The certificates of selected candidates are another major focus of the investigation. Complaints have raised questions about candidates selected from states other than Uttar Pradesh. As a result, educational certificates, caste certificates, domicile documents and records related to reservation eligibility may be verified. Investigators are also expected to examine the process through which these documents were checked at the time of application and whether the selected candidates fulfilled all eligibility conditions at the time of recruitment.
The complaints also allege that candidates from Uttar Pradesh were allegedly ignored during the selection process. According to the complainants, candidates from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, among other states, were selected in significant numbers. They have claimed that for certain reserved posts, being a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh was a mandatory requirement under the applicable reservation provisions. The STF will examine the recruitment rules and reservation provisions to determine the categories under which candidates from other states were selected and whether the selections complied with the prescribed conditions.
The distribution of candidates in the unreserved category has also been questioned. According to the complaints, 510 posts had been advertised under the unreserved category. The complainants have claimed that 209 candidates from Rajasthan, 46 from New Delhi and 95 from other states were selected. The STF is expected to compare these figures with the original recruitment records. Investigators will also examine whether the category, domicile and eligibility details of the selected candidates were correctly recorded and supported by valid documents.
The investigation may also examine decisions taken by various committees and officials involved at different stages of the recruitment. Records from the issuance of the advertisement to the preparation of the final selection list may be compared to establish whether the prescribed procedure was followed. If any decision is found to have been taken contrary to the applicable rules, or if serious lapses are found in document verification, the role of the officials responsible could come under further scrutiny.
According to sources, the STF may soon visit KGMU to collect detailed information about officials and employees associated with the recruitment process. At present, the available recruitment files are being examined. The team may subsequently seek complete details of those involved in conducting the examination and evaluating the answer sheets. Documents of candidates whose certificates have been specifically questioned in the complaints may also be sent for verification as the investigation progresses.
For now, the STF’s inquiry is focused on verifying the allegations made in the complaints and examining the available records. No allegations against any official or selected candidate have been established at this stage. The final findings of the investigation will determine whether any recruitment rules were actually violated and who, if anyone, was responsible. However, the allegations concerning changes in the examination procedure, selection of candidates from other states and questions over certificate verification have placed the 2023 KGMU Nursing Officer recruitment under significant scrutiny.
