Ahmedabad. A case of alleged financial fraud has emerged in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, where a relationship built on friendship and promises of financial assistance allegedly turned into a scheme involving credit cards and bank accounts. According to a complaint filed with Vastrapur police, three persons allegedly obtained identity documents from a man’s brother-in-law on the pretext of helping him secure loans and credit cards. The documents were allegedly used to obtain around 15 credit cards from different banks, which were then used for transactions worth approximately ₹5 lakh. In addition, around ₹18.98 lakh was allegedly transferred from the victim’s bank accounts to various accounts, taking the total alleged financial loss to ₹23.98 lakh.
The complaint was filed by Godhra resident Chiragbhai Pravinbhai Shukla on behalf of his brother-in-law, Gunjanbhai Mahendrabhai Bhatt. The accused have been identified as Aparnasingh, Nandkishore Singh Rajput and Hitenkumar Sureshkumar Shah. Police have registered a case and begun investigating the alleged transactions and the roles of the accused.
Friendship Allegedly Began at a Mobile Shop
According to the complaint, Gunjanbhai had known Aparnasingh since 2018, when he visited Samruddhi Mobile near the SBI Bank Gulab Tower branch in Ghatlodia to purchase a mobile phone. In 2024, Hitenkumar Shah allegedly opened Yashika Mobile Shop at Ratna Sagar Complex opposite Gulab Tower. The complaint states that Aparnasingh also frequently visited the shop.
Gunjanbhai’s association with the two accused allegedly grew over time, developing into a close acquaintance. The complainant alleged that the accused subsequently offered to help him obtain loans and credit cards from various banks and financial institutions.
Identity Documents Allegedly Used to Obtain 15 Credit Cards
The accused allegedly collected copies of identity and other documents from Gunjanbhai for processing loan and credit card applications. According to the complaint, between 2024 and May 2026, these documents were allegedly used to obtain around 15 credit cards from different banks.
The complaint alleges that the cards were retained by the accused instead of being handed over to Gunjanbhai. Transactions worth around ₹5 lakh were allegedly carried out through the cards. Some of these transactions were allegedly conducted without his knowledge or consent. After becoming aware of the transactions, Gunjanbhai reportedly blocked the cards.
₹18.98 Lakh Allegedly Transferred From Bank Accounts
The complaint also alleges that the accused persuaded Gunjanbhai to transfer money to various bank accounts by claiming that they urgently needed funds.
Between April 13, 2025, and May 25, 2026, around ₹18.98 lakh was allegedly transferred through multiple transactions from his SBI and HDFC Bank accounts. Police are now examining where the money was sent and how it was subsequently used.
₹22.66 Lakh Loan Against Property Under Investigation
The complaint also refers to a loan obtained against Gunjanbhai’s house. According to the complaint, he obtained a loan of ₹22.66 lakh from Aditya Birla Capital Limited by mortgaging the property.
Of this amount, ₹4.58 lakh was reportedly used towards credit card instalments, while approximately ₹17.01 lakh remained. The complaint alleges that ₹12.98 lakh from this amount was credited to Gunjanbhai’s SBI account and was subsequently transferred to different bank accounts at the alleged request of the accused.
Police are independently verifying the transactions and the circumstances in which the transfers were made.
Police Examining Alleged ₹23.98 Lakh Loss
According to the complaint, the alleged ₹18.98 lakh transferred from the bank accounts, combined with approximately ₹5 lakh in credit card transactions, resulted in a total alleged financial loss of ₹23.98 lakh.
Investigators are examining bank statements, credit card applications, transaction records and the accounts that allegedly received the funds. They are also verifying the process through which the approximately 15 credit cards were issued, the documents submitted during the applications and the individuals who actually used the cards.
Money Trail Could Reveal Wider Network
A key part of the investigation is tracing the alleged money trail. Police are trying to determine which accounts received the money transferred from Gunjanbhai’s accounts and whether the funds were subsequently moved to other accounts.
Investigators are also examining the financial links between the accused and the beneficiary accounts. Police will verify the alleged roles of the three accused in obtaining and using the credit cards and determine whether any other persons were involved.
Vastrapur police are currently examining banking records and other documentary evidence to verify the allegations. The investigation is expected to establish the roles of the accused, the circumstances surrounding the alleged unauthorised credit card transactions and the complete trail of the ₹18.98 lakh transferred from the victim’s bank accounts.
