Ranchi: Several significant claims have emerged during the CID investigation into alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations. Deputy Exam Controller Shweta Gupta and JPSC-14th examination candidate Suman Saurabh have reportedly provided details concerning the examination process, alleged manipulation of OMR sheets, pressure to prepare results and demands for money in exchange for helping candidates clear examinations. Gupta allegedly told investigators that former JPSC chairman Khyangte was also involved in alleged irregularities related to OMR sheets and written examinations.
During questioning, Gupta reportedly explained her responsibilities in the examination process. According to her statement, she was assigned responsibility for interviews for the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations, while the Preliminary Test (PT) and Main Examination were handled by Asim Kispotta. She was later given responsibility as examination controller. Before the results were published, a team led by Deputy Secretary Sarojini Tirkey was reportedly constituted for document verification.
Claim of Pressure to Release Results
In her alleged statement to the CID, Gupta said she was not willing to publish the results because she had not been involved in the PT and Main Examination processes. However, she claimed that the results were prepared following instructions from the then chairman. The results were subsequently sent for scrutiny to three commission members — Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda and Dr Jamal Ahmed, according to the statement.
The investigation has also brought the role of employees associated with private company TDPL into focus. According to Gupta’s alleged statement, work related to changes in OMR sheets and the written examination was carried out through TDPL employees Mohammad Usman, Mohammad Ibad, Sanjay Kumar and Hemant Kumar. The names of company directors Ramveer and Satpal have also reportedly surfaced during the questioning.
Information About Alleged Paper Leak Pressure
Gupta reportedly told investigators that when she learned about alleged pressure from Ramveer Singh to leak the question paper, she immediately informed the then chairman. Regarding TDPL’s empanelment, she allegedly said the decision was taken on the chairman’s instructions. She also claimed that the chairman personally monitored CCTV surveillance.
The CID questioning reportedly revealed that, apart from 11 students who allegedly paid money to clear the examination, 13 other candidates had deposited their educational certificates with Budheshwar Bhagat with the intention of securing qualification in the JPSC-14th PT. The names mentioned include Anjani Kumar, Shivam Kumar, Abid and Shambhu Pandit, among others. Investigators are examining these claims and the alleged roles of the people involved.
Candidate Claims ₹16 Lakh Payment
Suman Saurabh, who cleared the JPSC-14th PT, has allegedly told the CID that money was demanded to help him clear the examination. According to his statement, while preparing for the examination, his friend Diwakar Kumar’s maternal uncle Prakash Kumar introduced him to Pawan Kumar.
Pawan allegedly assured Suman of success in the examination and demanded ₹80 lakh. According to the claim, ₹20 lakh was sought for clearing the PT and ₹40 lakh for clearing the Main Examination. Suman reportedly stated that he paid ₹16 lakh. The CID is examining the alleged transaction and the roles of other individuals connected to it.
Students’ Protest Continues for 23rd Day
Meanwhile, students protesting alleged irregularities in JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations continued their agitation for the 23rd consecutive day on Sunday. At Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi, protesters raised slogans against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and burned an effigy of the Chief Minister.
The protesters announced that they would gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on August 20 if their demands were not addressed.
With the student movement continuing alongside the CID investigation, statements and documents related to the alleged examination irregularities have become central to the probe. Investigators are examining the claims concerning OMR manipulation, examination procedures, alleged payments and the roles of officials and private individuals. However, the allegations emerging during questioning remain subject to investigation, and their final confirmation will depend on the outcome of the probe and subsequent judicial proceedings.
