Ranchi: The Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department has claimed to have detected alleged undisclosed income of around ₹300 crore during an extensive search operation against Ram Kripal Singh Construction Private Limited (RK Construction) and its associated companies. The search operation continued for a third consecutive day, with officials examining seized financial records, digital devices and business documents. Investigators say the evidence collected so far points to suspected financial irregularities, including alleged hawala-linked transactions, while a detailed forensic examination remains underway.
The coordinated operation began on Thursday at five premises linked to the business group across Jharkhand, Bihar and Haryana. According to officials, nearly 200 Income Tax officers and staff members participated in the searches, which covered the offices and other premises of RK Construction and around 10 associated companies. During the operation, investigators seized a large volume of financial documents, accounting records, computers, laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices for detailed examination.
Officials associated with the investigation said the preliminary scrutiny of the seized material indicates alleged undisclosed income of approximately ₹300 crore. However, they emphasized that the final figure will be determined only after the verification of documents, reconciliation of financial records and completion of forensic analysis of the digital evidence. The Income Tax Department has not yet issued a detailed official statement regarding the findings, and the investigation remains in progress.
According to investigators, forensic examination of the seized computers, laptops, mobile phones and other digital devices has allegedly revealed chat records and electronic communications linked to suspected hawala transactions, along with other financial irregularities. Authorities are now analyzing these digital records to determine how the alleged transactions were structured, identify the individuals or entities involved and trace the movement of funds across different accounts and companies.
The investigation has also raised questions about alleged cash transactions within the group. Officials claim that funds were transferred between different companies to generate cash, while nearly ₹200 crore was shown as cash expenditure. Investigators allege that the persons associated with the companies have so far been unable to provide satisfactory documentation or accounting records to justify the reported cash spending. Authorities are examining whether these expenditures were genuine business expenses or part of a broader mechanism to conceal financial transactions.
Income Tax sources further indicated that the probe has expanded beyond the issue of undisclosed income and now includes the possibility of benami investments and assets. Investigators suspect that a substantial portion of the alleged unaccounted income may have been invested through benami properties, shell entities or other investment channels. As part of the ongoing inquiry, officials are scrutinizing the investment portfolios of the company’s directors and associated entities to identify the ultimate beneficiaries and establish the source and destination of funds.
The department is also examining inter-company transactions, banking records, tax filings and corporate accounts to determine whether there were violations of tax laws or attempts to conceal taxable income. Investigators are expected to compare the seized documents with statutory filings and financial disclosures submitted by the companies to identify any discrepancies. If required, information may also be shared with other financial investigation agencies for further action under the applicable laws.
Financial experts note that in large-scale tax investigations, digital evidence often plays a crucial role alongside traditional accounting records. Electronic communications, banking data, transaction histories and corporate records can help investigators reconstruct financial trails and determine whether there has been tax evasion, undisclosed income or other financial misconduct. If the allegations are substantiated after completion of the investigation, the companies and individuals concerned could face tax recovery proceedings, penalties and other legal action under the relevant provisions of law. At present, the Income Tax Department continues to examine all seized documents and digital evidence, while the investigation into the alleged financial irregularities remains ongoing.
