Azamgarh: A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh has ordered the registration of an FIR in an alleged ₹5.75 lakh vehicle loan fraud linked to the purchase of a used pickup truck. Acting on the court’s direction, Sidhari Police have registered a case against five persons, including a vehicle seller, a finance company manager, a financier, a bank branch manager and the vehicle owner. The complainant has alleged that his personal documents were used to secure a vehicle loan in his name, but he neither received the pickup vehicle nor the loan amount, even as loan instalments (EMIs) began to be deducted from his bank account.

According to the police, the case was registered on the complaint of Vijay Shankar Yadav, a resident of the Sidhari area. In his petition before the court, Yadav alleged that he had approached vehicle seller Ashok Kumar Gaur to purchase a used pickup truck. During the transaction, he was assured that vehicle finance would be arranged on easy terms and that the entire process would be completed lawfully.

The complaint alleges that Indostar Capital manager Dheeraj Kumar Mishra, financier Sarwan Giri, the manager of Union Bank of India’s Kotila branch and vehicle owner Yasir Akhtar were also involved in the transaction. According to the allegations, the accused collected the complainant’s Aadhaar card, PAN card, banking documents and signed cheques before securing a vehicle loan of ₹5.75 lakh in his name.

The complainant has alleged that despite the loan being sanctioned, he neither received delivery of the pickup vehicle nor the loan proceeds. When he sought clarification from the vehicle seller and the other individuals involved, he allegedly did not receive satisfactory answers. He later contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who reportedly claimed that he too had not received the full sale consideration. This, according to the complainant, raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of the entire transaction.

The complaint further alleges that a forged “No Dues” certificate was prepared in an attempt to transfer ownership of the vehicle. Meanwhile, monthly EMI deductions allegedly started from the complainant’s bank account, despite the fact that he had neither taken possession of the vehicle nor received the sanctioned loan amount. The complainant also alleged that when he questioned the transaction and demanded an explanation, he was threatened.

After no action was allegedly taken at the local level, the complainant approached the court seeking legal intervention. Upon examining the complaint, the court directed the police to register an FIR and initiate an investigation. In compliance with the court’s order, Sidhari Police registered a case against all five named accused under the relevant legal provisions.

Police officials said the investigation has commenced and that financial records, bank documents, the loan sanction process, vehicle ownership records and the allegedly forged documents are being examined. Investigators are also working to determine where the loan amount was transferred and what role each accused may have played in the alleged fraud.

Sidhari Police stated that further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation. If the allegations relating to forged documents, cheating, criminal conspiracy or misuse of banking procedures are substantiated, appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible under the applicable provisions of law. The investigation is currently underway.
