Inspection Conducted at Shop and Warehouse

The inspection was carried out on July 12 under the direction of Chandrakant Ralhan, Joint Commissioner, Range-A, Special Investigation Branch of the State GST Department.

Officials inspected the shop of Madhav Traders in Daresi and its warehouse in Nunhai. The firm is owned by Shubham Chaurasia.

During the exercise, the investigation team compared the stock recorded in the company’s accounts with the physical inventory available at both locations.

Excess Stock Worth Over ₹90 Lakh Detected

The inspection found a significant mismatch in the stock of pan masala pouches priced at ₹33 each. According to the department, the physical stock was worth more than ₹90 lakh above the quantity reflected in the firm’s records.

Officials also found that stocks of lower-priced pan masala pouches were missing. The value of the unaccounted shortage was estimated at approximately ₹25 lakh.

The discrepancies prompted the department to calculate the firm’s tax liability along with applicable interest and penalties.

Dealer Asked to Deposit ₹62 Lakh

Joint Commissioner Chandrakant Ralhan said the trader had been directed to deposit ₹62 lakh in taxes, interest and penalties following the inspection.

The businessman has so far deposited ₹18.5 lakh and has assured the department that the remaining amount will also be paid.
