In a major action against narcotics trafficking and the illegal drug trade, Uttar Pradesh Police destroyed 340 kilograms of seized cannabis worth approximately ₹1.70 crore under its ongoing anti-drug initiative, Operation Dahan. The disposal was carried out late Tuesday after obtaining the necessary approval from the competent court and following the prescribed legal procedure.
According to police officials, the action was conducted on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Ilamaran as part of the district’s sustained efforts to eliminate seized narcotic substances and prevent their misuse. The destroyed contraband had been recovered in connection with cases registered at Malawan Police Station.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Yogendra Singh said that narcotic substances seized during criminal investigations are destroyed only after obtaining permission from the court and in accordance with the procedures prescribed under the law. He added that the disposal process is undertaken under strict supervision to ensure transparency and compliance with legal requirements.

The cannabis was transported to an authorised waste management facility at Etmadpur in Agra, where it was destroyed under the supervision of the District-Level Drug Disposal Committee. Officials said all prescribed safety protocols and environmental guidelines were followed throughout the disposal process.
Police stated that the destruction of the seized narcotics is aimed at ensuring that confiscated drugs do not re-enter the illegal market while reinforcing law enforcement efforts against narcotics trafficking. Authorities also noted that systematic disposal of seized contraband forms an important part of the criminal justice process in drug-related cases.
Officials present during the disposal included members of the District Drug Disposal Committee, along with other designated police officers responsible for overseeing the procedure. The entire process was documented as per the applicable legal and administrative guidelines.
Police reiterated that the district administration will continue taking strict action against the illegal manufacture, transportation, storage, and sale of narcotic substances. Officials said intelligence-based operations and enforcement drives against drug trafficking networks will continue, while all seized narcotics will be disposed of through the legally prescribed mechanism after completion of judicial formalities.
The authorities added that the action reflects the administration’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and dismantling the illegal narcotics supply chain in the region. Further operations against individuals and networks involved in narcotics trafficking are expected to continue as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.
