Nashik: The chargesheet filed in the high-profile sexual harassment and alleged religious conversion case linked to the Nashik office of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has brought several serious allegations to light. According to documents submitted before the court, investigators believe that certain women were systematically targeted through psychological influence, religious persuasion, and exploitation of their personal vulnerabilities.
According to the statement of one victim included in the chargesheet, she was gradually encouraged to watch and listen to religious content under the pretext of reducing mental stress. The woman alleged that she was asked to watch videos related to Islam and listen to sermons delivered by prominent religious preachers. She claimed that repeated attempts were made to convince her that accepting Islam could help alleviate her emotional distress and bring positive changes to her life.
Alleged Psychological Coercion and Financial Control
The victim told investigators that what initially appeared to be advice for managing stress gradually evolved into discussions centered on religious beliefs and practices. She alleged that she was advised to stop visiting temples and listening to devotional songs associated with her faith, while being encouraged to recite specific religious prayers and phrases on a regular basis.
According to the chargesheet, one of the accused allegedly established a relationship with the woman by promising marriage. The victim claimed that whenever she expressed concerns about her future and her family’s acceptance, she was reassured that she should not be afraid and that following a particular religious path would help resolve her problems. She stated that the continuous persuasion eventually led her to start believing many of the ideas being presented to her.
Investigation records further state that the victim was introduced to various religious narratives, festivals, concepts of heaven and hell, and other theological teachings. She alleged that she was instructed to search for and watch videos of certain religious speakers on her mobile phone and listen to their lectures as part of this process.
The chargesheet also highlights a financial dimension to the case. The victim alleged that the accused had detailed knowledge of her bank accounts, digital payment credentials, and financial condition. Investigators are examining whether such information was used to exert influence or establish control over her.
Impact on Family and the Special Investigation
The statement of the victim’s mother has also been included in the chargesheet. She alleged that her daughter’s behavior and lifestyle underwent noticeable changes over the past year. According to the family, alterations in clothing choices, dietary habits, and daily routines were accompanied by significant shifts in her religious outlook. The mother claimed that her daughter informed family members that pressure had been exerted on her to convert and that other members of the family were also encouraged to adopt the same faith.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the Maharashtra government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. During the investigation, several women employees reportedly made allegations ranging from sexual exploitation and mental harassment to attempts at religious conversion, interference with religious beliefs, and pressure to adopt specific religious practices.
Legal Status and Corporate Response
The case has led to multiple criminal complaints being registered at different police stations in Nashik. The chargesheet contains statements from 106 witnesses, including the complainant, her family members, employees of the company, members of the Internal Complaints Committee, management personnel, and investigating officials.
Meanwhile, TCS has reiterated its long-standing zero-tolerance policy toward harassment, coercion, and discrimination of any kind. The company stated that internal action has been initiated against employees who came under scrutiny during the investigation and that the individuals concerned have been suspended pending further proceedings.
With the chargesheet now before the court, the focus will shift to the judicial process and the ongoing investigation, which is expected to determine the validity of the allegations and the extent of responsibility of those accused in the case.
