Over 70,000 Convictions Recorded in Four Months
According to official data released by police headquarters, a total of 70,624 convictions were secured between January and April 2026. Authorities stated that the increase in disposal rate is a result of faster case processing and strengthened prosecution coordination, which has helped reduce pendency and accelerate trial outcomes. Officials further noted that higher conviction rates in serious offences have also created a psychological deterrent effect among offenders.
The figures show that convictions were recorded in 213 murder cases, 252 Arms Act cases, 17 dacoity cases, 51 kidnapping cases, and 218 cases related to rape and POCSO offences during the period. Officials said the speedy trial model has ensured better coordination between investigative agencies and prosecution teams, allowing cases to reach courts without significant delays.
Death Penalty and Life Sentences in Serious Cases
During the same period, courts awarded capital punishment to two convicts, while 453 individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment. Additionally, 253 people received imprisonment of more than 10 years, 651 were sentenced to less than 10 years, and 981 individuals were given jail terms of less than two years. A large number of convicts were also subjected to fines and bond-down actions as part of judicial orders.
Police data further revealed that 506 individuals were convicted in murder-related cases, while 318 convictions were recorded under the Arms Act. In rape and POCSO cases, 267 individuals were found guilty. Similarly, 62 convictions were recorded in kidnapping cases, 66 in robbery cases, and 34 in dacoity cases.
Officials stated that the state is strengthening its strategy against organised crime, illegal arms networks and violent offences through the expansion of speedy trial mechanisms. In several districts, senior officers are directly monitoring serious cases to ensure timely filing of charge sheets and effective presentation of evidence in courts.
SP Rural Posts Created to Strengthen Policing
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has also introduced administrative reforms to strengthen law enforcement. According to officials, new posts of Superintendent of Police (Rural) have been created in East Champaran, Samastipur, Vaishali, Siwan and Madhubani districts. The decision was taken in view of rising population pressure and the need for stronger policing in rural regions.
Authorities said the creation of SP Rural posts will improve law-and-order supervision, case monitoring and investigation speed. It is also expected to strengthen police response time in rural areas and enhance overall crime control mechanisms. Officials believe that the expanded administrative structure will further improve case disposal rates in the coming months.
Police headquarters stated that the impact of fast-track justice is not limited to convictions alone but has also strengthened overall crime control strategies. According to officials, continuous monitoring of offenders, warrant execution drives and improved digital record management systems have contributed to better enforcement outcomes across districts.
Experts in law and order matters noted that the speedy trial model has become a key administrative strategy in Bihar over recent years. According to them, time-bound hearings and faster prosecution significantly improve conviction rates in serious crimes and directly contribute to stronger deterrence against criminal activity.
The state government and police department have indicated that they will continue to strengthen speedy trials, prosecution coordination and district-level crime monitoring systems in the coming months. Officials said that strict enforcement policies and fast-track justice mechanisms will remain a top priority in Bihar’s law-and-order framework going forward.
