A Bengaluru-based software engineer allegedly lost ₹43.48 lakh in a sophisticated cryptocurrency scam after fraudsters lured him through a fake part-time job opportunity promising easy online earnings. Police have launched an investigation into the cyber fraud operation, which reportedly used crypto investment tactics and manipulated digital platforms to extract money from the victim.

Fake Part-Time Job Offer Allegedly Used to Trap Victim

According to investigators, the engineer was initially approached through an online message offering a part-time work opportunity with promises of attractive commissions and flexible earnings. The victim was allegedly asked to complete simple online tasks before being introduced to cryptocurrency-based investment activities linked to the platform.

Police said the fraudsters gradually gained the victim’s trust by initially allowing small withdrawals and showing fake profits on the digital dashboard. Investigators believe the operation was carefully designed to convince the victim that the investment platform was genuine and profitable.

Victim Allegedly Pressured Into Larger Investments

As the displayed profits increased, the victim was allegedly persuaded to invest larger amounts into cryptocurrency-linked accounts and trading wallets controlled by the fraudsters. Authorities said the accused repeatedly claimed that higher investments would unlock bigger returns and bonus commissions.

The scam reportedly came to light when the engineer attempted to withdraw the accumulated amount. Investigators said the fraudsters allegedly demanded additional payments under various pretexts, including taxes, verification charges, and processing fees. Communication reportedly stopped after the victim refused to transfer more money.

Cybercrime Police Tracking Digital Money Trail

Police are now tracing cryptocurrency transactions, bank transfers, mobile numbers, and digital communication records allegedly linked to the fraud network. Investigators suspect the accused may be part of an organized cybercrime syndicate operating across multiple states or countries through fake job offers and crypto investment schemes.

Authorities are also examining whether mule bank accounts, digital wallets, and messaging platforms were used to layer and transfer the allegedly stolen funds. Officials warned that cybercriminals are increasingly combining fake employment opportunities with cryptocurrency investments to target professionals and tech workers.

Rise in Crypto and Task-Based Fraud Cases

Cybercrime agencies across India have reported a sharp increase in scams involving fake online jobs, task-based earning schemes, and cryptocurrency investments. Fraudsters often use messaging apps, social media platforms, and professional networking channels to approach victims with promises of quick profits and remote work opportunities.

Experts have warned that scammers frequently display fabricated profits and allow limited withdrawals initially to build trust before demanding larger investments. Authorities have advised users to verify online job offers and avoid transferring money to unknown trading or cryptocurrency platforms without proper verification.
