Lucknow. A major and organized healthcare-related network has been exposed following the arrest of fake doctor Hassam Ahmad in Lucknow. Initial investigations suggest that the gang was not limited to a single city but was operating across several districts of western Uttar Pradesh in a well-planned and structured manner.

Fake Doctor Case Opens Wider Scam Probe

According to sources, Hassam Ahmad’s network was active in districts such as Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Bijnor, where he was allegedly connected with multiple hospitals and clinics. He reportedly facilitated patient admissions and treatment arrangements in exchange for low-cost healthcare, while earning substantial commissions.

Poor Patients Allegedly Lured With Cheap Treatment Promises

Police investigations have further revealed that the gang specifically targeted economically weaker patients who could not afford expensive medical treatment. These individuals were first approached with offers of assistance and affordable care. Over time, after gaining their trust, there were alleged attempts to influence them towards religious conversion, although authorities have stated that this aspect is still under detailed investigation and no conclusion has been reached yet.

Following the arrest, several suspected doctors and lab technicians linked to KGMU have reportedly switched off their mobile phones, raising further suspicion among investigating agencies. Officials believe that these individuals may be part of a larger network and are deliberately avoiding contact to escape scrutiny.

WhatsApp Groups Reveal Digital Trail

The investigation has also uncovered that the entire operation was managed on a large scale through digital platforms. Hassam Ahmad had created multiple WhatsApp groups through which he shared patient information and coordinated hospital admissions, treatment arrangements, and commission-based transactions. These groups were actively used for real-time updates, allowing the network to function in a highly coordinated manner.

Police and intelligence agencies are now closely examining digital records, social media activity, and call detail records to trace the full extent of the network. Officials suspect the racket may not be confined to Uttar Pradesh and may have links to other states as well.

Sources further indicate that the primary objective of the gang was not only to facilitate patient treatment but also to generate illegal financial gains through the healthcare system. In several cases, patients were admitted to hospitals where unnecessary tests and procedures were allegedly conducted, resulting in inflated medical bills.

The revelation has raised serious concerns about transparency and regulation within the healthcare system. Locals have also expressed fears that similar networks may be operating elsewhere, targeting vulnerable and economically disadvantaged patients under the guise of medical assistance.

At present, police have intensified interrogation of Hassam Ahmad and are identifying individuals connected to him. Investigating agencies believe that more names are likely to emerge in the coming days, which could further expose the full scale of the alleged racket.
