Hyderabad is witnessing a rise in cybercrime cases, prompting the city police to launch a door to door cyber security awareness programme focused on preventive measures and public vigilance.

Outreach Programme In Pragathi Colony

An outreach session was held in the Pragathi Colony area under the jurisdiction of Mailardevpally Police Station, led by S Srinivas. Around 25 residents participated in the session, which focused on practical safety measures to counter digital fraud.

During the interaction, officials cautioned residents about suspicious APK files and advised them not to install unknown applications received through SMS or WhatsApp, as these may contain malware. The session also addressed child safety in online gaming, with parents urged to ensure that children do not download unauthorised applications.

Focus On Fraud Prevention And Reporting

The DCP advised citizens to remain cautious and avoid falling for fraudulent schemes, lotteries, or high return investment offers. He also stressed the importance of the “golden hour”, noting that reporting financial fraud within the first two hours is critical to freezing stolen funds.

Victims were encouraged to immediately contact the national helpline 1930 or use the official portal to report cyber fraud incidents.

Inspection Of Police Station Operations

Following the awareness session, the DCP conducted a surprise inspection of the Mailardevpally Police Station. He reviewed the behaviour of the receptionist towards complainants and examined the maintenance of duty registers and overall infrastructure.

The officer also interacted with victims present at the station to assess how grievances were being handled and to track case progress. He directed staff to remain accessible to the public and ensure transparency in services. The inspection was conducted in the presence of SHO Satyanarayana, DI Maqsood Ali, SIP Vishwanath Reddy, ASI Lalya Nayak, and other personnel.
