The arrest of a 22-year-old youth, Sheikh Imran, from the Ganga Nagar area of Bhubaneswar by Delhi Police has raised serious concerns over cyber security and online radicalisation. The accused is allegedly linked to a radical network and is suspected of being influenced through digital platforms.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Sheikh Imran came into contact with an online group through social media platforms where ideology-based content was regularly shared. Over time, investigators believe this content may have gradually influenced and drawn him towards a larger and more structured network.

Honey-Trapping and Encrypted Network Exposure

According to sources, during these online interactions, Imran was allegedly honey-trapped by a woman suspected to have links across the border. She is believed to have gradually introduced him to a closed and encrypted online network, which is under suspicion for engaging in radical activities.

Delhi Trips and Suspected Cyber Training

Investigators further revealed that Imran reportedly travelled to New Delhi multiple times over the past year. During these visits, he is said to have met individuals associated with the network and was allegedly introduced to a short-term training programme involving cyber communication and digital techniques.

However, agencies have not yet confirmed the exact nature of the training. Officials suspect that the programme may have included instructions related to encrypted communication methods, concealing digital footprints, and operating within secure online environments.

Digital Forensics and Broader Network Probe

Given the seriousness of the matter, cyber experts are currently analysing chat records, call detail records, financial transactions, and broader digital footprints linked to the accused. Authorities are also examining whether other youths from Odisha or different regions may have been drawn into the same network.

Officials stated that the case came to light during the interrogation of individuals previously detained in Delhi. Information gathered during those questioning sessions reportedly led investigators to Imran, prompting coordinated action between multiple agencies.

Family Denies Allegations Amid Investigation

The accused’s family has strongly denied all allegations, stating they were unaware of any such activities. His father said that Imran used to remain engaged with his mobile phone for long hours but never showed any suspicious behaviour.

According to the family, Imran occasionally worked as a food delivery agent and often sought financial help from home. His father expressed disbelief over the allegations, saying it was hard to accept that his son could be involved in such a network.

Authorities believe the case may not be limited to an individual but could reflect a broader pattern of psychological influence and digital manipulation through online platforms. Experts suggest that such networks often operate by gradually influencing individuals and drawing them into closed digital groups.

Cybersecurity specialists note that encrypted messaging applications and anonymous profiles make such investigations more complex. Limited traceability and strong encryption often create significant challenges for enforcement agencies.

Investigators are also trying to determine whether the network has international links and whether similar recruitment methods are being used in other regions.

The case has once again highlighted the growing importance of digital awareness and cyber safety. Experts have advised internet users, especially young individuals, to remain cautious while interacting with unknown profiles and engaging in suspicious online communities.

The investigation is still in its early stages, with digital forensic analysis underway. Officials have indicated that further revelations may emerge in the coming days as more data is examined and the network structure is mapped.
