New Delhi: In a decisive move against corruption in the national capital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested Lt. Colonel Abhishek Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara North, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), for allegedly demanding a ₹4 lakh bribe. Officials stated that the action followed intelligence indicating Mishra’s involvement in soliciting the bribe.
Sources said the complaint alleged that account officer Divyanshu Gautam demanded ₹4 lakh from Deputy Commissioner Mishra in connection with action against a license inspector. Following the complaint, CBI immediately laid a trap and caught both officials red-handed.

Preliminary CBI investigations suggest that additional aspects of corruption may surface in this case. The agency confirmed that a detailed probe is underway and comprehensive information will soon be shared with the media and the public.
According to sources at the scene, the MCD licensing department has faced instances of illegal collection over the years. Officials emphasized that this action sends a clear message: no officer involved in corruption at any level will be spared.
Special sources added that CBI monitored the activities of both the complainant and the accused before executing the trap. The arrest comes at a time when the capital administration is emphasizing transparency and accountability in government departments.
Earlier in March, CBI sentenced a former IT officer in Thane, Maharashtra, to six months in jail in a 19-year-old bribery case. Such verdicts reflect the agency’s readiness to pursue even old cases.
Experts believe that strict vigilance is essential in probing corruption in large corporations like MCD. It not only strengthens administrative transparency but also boosts public trust.
Over the past few years, several instances have emerged in MCD where junior and senior officials harassed citizens for illegal collections. The latest CBI action indicates that the agency is treating such cases seriously and working to reform the system.
Following Deputy Commissioner Mishra’s arrest, officials said special attention would be paid to procedures in the MCD licensing department. Signals suggest that other related cases may also face action after departmental review.
This move is seen as significant within the ongoing campaign against corruption in the capital. CBI stated it will provide a detailed report to the media and public once the investigation is complete.
Meanwhile, citizens have welcomed the arrest and expressed hope that bribery incidents in government departments will reduce in the future.
CBI’s operation once again sends a strong message that there is no place for officers involved in corruption and that the law remains vigilant at all times.
