Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways has issued a warning regarding fake social media accounts claiming to represent the airline, citing passenger safety concerns. The airline said that cybercriminals are using its name and logo on social media platforms to contact travellers. These fake profiles are attempting to obtain personal information from users. The company urged the public to communicate only through its official accounts and website.
Warning Against Sharing Sensitive Information
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Etihad Airways said that several fake profiles using the airline’s name are currently active. These profiles send messages to passengers while pretending to be company representatives. Initial investigations suggest that fraudsters are trying to deceive travellers using social media platforms. The airline clearly stated that it never asks for passwords, OTPs, bank details, or payment information through social media.
The company advised passengers to verify the authenticity of any suspicious message before responding. If any account requests information related to ticket booking, upgrade services, or refunds, travellers should immediately exercise caution. Etihad also stated that customers should access support services only through its official website, etihad.com.

Official Channels and Verified Accounts
According to Etihad Airways, multiple fake accounts have been discovered using the airline’s logo and name to communicate with passengers. The objective of these fraudulent profiles is to obtain sensitive personal and financial information. The airline warned travellers not to engage in conversations with any unauthorized accounts.
The airline also shared its verified social media handles. Etihad’s official verified accounts on the X platform are @Etihad and @EtihadHelp. The company emphasized that customer safety is its top priority and that monitoring is continuously carried out to protect passenger data privacy.
Rising Cyber Fraud in the Travel Sector
Cybersecurity experts said that fraudulent online activities related to airlines and the travel sector have increased in recent times. Scammers often target people in the name of ticket booking, refund processing, or loyalty programs. In such cases, users should first check the verification status of the account and the authenticity of the website.
Etihad Airways urged passengers to avoid trusting unsolicited social media messages and not to share any sensitive information. The airline also said that if anyone notices suspicious activity, it should be reported immediately on the respective platform.
The company stressed that passenger security and data protection remain its highest priority. Etihad clarified that it will not be responsible for any communication or financial transactions conducted through unofficial channels.
Considering the rising incidents of cyber fraud, authorities are also encouraging people to stay aware of online security risks. Experts recommend exercising caution while using digital platforms, as vigilance is the best protection against online scams. Travellers are advised to obtain any travel-related information only through the official website or verified customer service channels.
