Tehran/Tel Aviv:    Tensions in West Asia have escalated sharply after a joint military operation by the United States and Israel targeted several locations in Iran, including the capital Tehran. The Israeli military claimed that around 30 strategic sites were struck, including installations linked to Iran’s top leadership. Loud explosions were reported in multiple areas of Tehran following the attack, triggering panic among local residents.

Strikes Reported Across Tehran

According to reports, the private residence of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was also targeted, though he was not present there at the time. International media sources have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage. In response, Iranian authorities immediately announced the closure of the country’s airspace until further notice and issued new NOTAM alerts through the civil aviation authority.

Israel Cites Military Objectives

The Israeli Defence Ministry stated that the operation aimed to weaken Iran’s military capabilities. Defence officials claimed that simultaneous strikes destroyed approximately 30 strategic targets, including Iranian intelligence headquarters and military infrastructure. Israel had earlier warned that it could resort to military action if diplomatic negotiations failed.

U.S. Involvement and Regional Precautions

The United States is also reported to be involved in the operation. American aircraft carriers and warships had already been deployed in the Middle East region. Analysts believe the strike may be part of an attempt to reshape the regional balance of power. The US Embassy in Qatar activated a “shelter-in-place” protocol for its staff and advised citizens to stay in safe locations.

Fears of Wider Escalation

Security alerts were also issued within Israel. Authorities ordered temporary closure of schools and advised people to avoid gathering in crowded public places. Military officials said these precautionary measures were taken due to the threat of potential missile attacks. The Israeli military urged civilians to remain near protected shelters.

Iran has not yet officially announced any military retaliation, but there are concerns that Tehran may launch a counterattack. Iranian media reported that some sensitive locations in the country were targeted and damage assessment is underway. The government has placed security forces on high alert and increased surveillance around strategic installations.

Middle East security experts warn that the attack could potentially trigger a broader regional conflict. If Iran responds militarily, the scale of the war could expand further. Several governments have advised their citizens to leave the region or stay in secure areas.
