A shocking crime has been reported from the state capital where a son allegedly killed his father following a dispute over academic pressure and family tension. Police said 21-year-old Akshat Pratap Singh shot his father, a liquor businessman, and later dismembered the body in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The victim has been identified as Manvendra Singh, aged 49, who was involved in a pathology lab and liquor business. According to reports, there had been ongoing tension between the father and son over preparation for the NEET medical entrance examination, which allegedly escalated into violence.
Police investigation revealed that the argument between father and son took place around 4:30 am on February 20 over studies. During the dispute, the accused allegedly used his licensed rifle to shoot his father, resulting in his immediate death. The accused’s younger sister was sleeping in another room at the time and came out after hearing the gunshot, finding her father’s body lying inside the house.
After the killing, the accused allegedly dragged the body to an empty room on the lower floor of the house. He then attempted to conceal the crime by dismembering the body. Police said the accused purchased a saw and cut the body into pieces, disposing of the hands and legs in the Sadrauna area of Pahra locality.

The head and torso were later recovered from a blue drum kept inside the house. The incident came to light after a missing complaint regarding Manvendra Singh was filed on February 21. During investigation, police also questioned the victim’s brother, Arvind Kumar, who is reportedly a government employee.
Preliminary findings suggested that the father was pressuring the son to focus on medical entrance examination preparation, which the accused allegedly could not tolerate.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Vikrant Veer said the accused has been arrested on charges of murder and destruction of evidence. The body parts have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. The hands and legs were retrieved from different locations earlier.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly said that he initially planned to dispose of the body by throwing it into the Gomti River using a car but failed to lift the body alone. After this, he bought a saw and decided to cut the body into pieces.
Police have registered a First Information Report against the accused under relevant sections of murder and evidence destruction laws. Officials said electronic and physical evidence collected from the crime scene is being examined. Investigators are also probing whether any other family member was involved or aware of the incident.
The brutal incident has shocked local residents, leaving the neighbourhood in a state of fear and disbelief. Police said the accused will be produced before the court and further legal proceedings will follow. Investigators are also trying to determine whether any factor other than family pressure contributed to the crime.
Authorities have urged people to address family stress and academic pressure through communication and counselling to prevent such violent incidents in the future.
