New Delhi: India’s largest airline IndiGo has cancelled select international flights and revised schedules on several others after issuing a travel advisory amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, which have begun to impact international air traffic across the region.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the airline said recent developments around Iranian airspace and adjoining regions had prompted it to take proactive operational measures, placing passenger safety as its top priority. IndiGo advised travellers to closely monitor the status of their flights and remain in touch with customer support channels for the latest updates.

The advisory comes against the backdrop of a sharp escalation in geopolitical tensions, with the United States announcing an increased deployment of naval assets in the region and Iran issuing strong warnings of retaliation in the event of an attack. Aviation operators globally have begun reassessing routes that pass through or near sensitive airspace.

IndiGo said that based on a continuous assessment of the evolving security situation, it had cancelled certain flights outright while modifying the operational profile of others to reduce risk exposure.

According to the airline, the following flights scheduled for January 25, 2026, have been cancelled:

  • Delhi–Tbilisi
  • Mumbai–Almaty

In addition, flights operating to and from destinations in Central Asia and the Caucasus region are expected to be affected by operational adjustments on January 26, 2026, including potential refuelling stops in Doha, depending on airspace availability and routing constraints.

IndiGo said flights that may require refuelling halts include services operating to and from:

  • Tbilisi
  • Almaty
  • Baku
  • Tashkent

The airline clarified that these adjustments are being made to avoid certain air corridors and to ensure compliance with international aviation safety advisories.

In a post on social media platform X, IndiGo stated, “Following our earlier advisory and in light of recent developments involving Iran, we are making additional changes to our flight schedules. Passenger safety remains our highest priority.”

IndiGo urged passengers to check their flight status regularly through the airline’s official website and mobile application. Travellers have also been advised to contact customer support for rebooking options, alternative flights, or full refunds, where applicable.

The airline said it is offering flexibility to affected passengers, including rescheduling without penalty and refunds for cancelled services. IndiGo added that its operations team is monitoring the situation on a real-time basis and that further schedule changes may be introduced if required by evolving security assessments.

Aviation analysts noted that airlines operating long-haul and mid-haul international routes are increasingly being forced to adapt schedules due to geopolitical disruptions, rising fuel costs linked to longer routings, and regulatory advisories issued by global aviation bodies.

The current situation has also raised concerns over potential delays, increased flight durations and higher operating costs, particularly on routes connecting India with Europe, Central Asia and parts of West Asia.

IndiGo, which operates one of the largest international networks among Indian carriers, said it remains committed to maintaining service continuity where feasible, while prioritising operational safety over commercial considerations.

Passengers with upcoming travel plans over the next few days have been advised to remain alert to airline communications, especially as conditions in the region remain fluid.

The airline reiterated that it would continue to issue updates as necessary and take additional measures if the security environment deteriorates further.
