The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Gurugram Zonal Office, has provisionally attached movable and immovable assets worth ₹117.41 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with a case against M/s Probo Media Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

The attached properties include fixed deposits, investments in shares, demand drafts, bank balances, and apartments or flats held in the names of the family members of the company’s directors. The attachment order was issued on December 9, 2025.

According to the agency, Probo Media Technologies Pvt. Ltd., which operates the popular application and website “Probo”, facilitated online gambling under the guise of online gaming, defrauding users across multiple states.

Probe initiated after multiple FIRs in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh

The ED began its investigation based on multiple FIRs registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Public Gambling Act, 1867 in Gurugram and Palwal (Haryana), and Agra (Uttar Pradesh).

Complainants alleged that the company had lured them into a “yes or no” money-making scheme, falsely presented as a skill-based game but, in reality, functioning as a gambling operation.

According to the complaints, participants were made to believe they were engaging in lawful online gaming activities, while the platform’s structure was designed to ensure users lost money over time — generating substantial illegal profits for the company.

ED finds ₹1,245 crore proceeds of crime

The ED’s investigation revealed that Probo Media Technologies Pvt. Ltd. misrepresented itself as a skill-based gaming platform to conceal its gambling operations. In practice, it ran a betting-based system disguised as a legal online gaming service.

The agency stated that the company’s activities led to the generation of proceeds of crime amounting to ₹1,245.64 crore (approximately). The funds were routed through various financial channels and invested in multiple instruments, including fixed deposits and shares, to obscure their illicit origin.

The company ceased its operations in August 2025, following the enactment of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which tightened scrutiny on online gaming and gambling platforms.

Previous search operations froze ₹284.5 crore investments

Earlier, on July 8 and 9, 2025, the ED conducted search operations under the PMLA, 2002, at premises associated with Probo Media Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and its promoters.

During these raids, the agency froze fixed deposits and investments in shares valued at ₹284.5 crore, invoking Section 17(1)(a) of the PMLA. These financial holdings were found to be directly linked to the company’s illegal revenue streams.

Directors’ families under scrutiny

In addition to the company, the ED has extended its probe to include family members of the directors and promoters, who allegedly held properties and financial assets purchased using the proceeds of crime.

Investigators are examining whether the family members actively assisted in concealing or layering the illicit funds through real estate investments and financial instruments.

Further investigation ongoing

The ED confirmed that further investigation is in progress to identify additional assets, financial beneficiaries, and offshore linkages connected to the Probo network. The agency is also examining the company’s digital and financial infrastructure, including payment gateways and intermediary platforms, used to route gambling proceeds.

The case marks one of the first major enforcement actions taken under India’s new online gaming regulatory framework, signalling the government’s growing crackdown on illegal betting disguised as digital gaming.
