A senior woman police officer in Chhattisgarh has come under scrutiny after a businessman accused her of extortion, blackmail, and deceit. According to the complaint filed at Khammardih Police Station, DSP Kalpana Verma allegedly trapped businessman Deepak Tandon in a romantic relationship and later extorted over ₹2.5 crore, luxury gifts, and even ownership of his hotel property.

Tandon claimed that Verma initially approached him in 2021 and gradually developed a personal relationship, during which she repeatedly demanded money and expensive items. When he refused to continue fulfilling her financial requests, she allegedly threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases.

Accusations Include Cash, Jewellery, and Vehicle Transfers

In his detailed statement, the complainant said he had given Verma over ₹2 crore in cash, along with high-value gifts including a ₹12 lakh diamond ring, gold ornaments worth ₹5 lakh, and a ₹1 lakh bracelet. He also claimed that Verma took possession of his Innova Crysta car and later pressured him to transfer ownership of a hotel on VIP Road in Raipur to her brother’s name.

According to Tandon, the officer later spent around ₹30 lakh to officially register the property in her name. He said the demands did not stop even after this transaction.

Evidence Submitted to Police

Tandon submitted WhatsApp chats, CCTV footage, and other digital evidence to the Raipur police, alleging that Verma had used her official position to intimidate him. He stated that after he refused to withdraw his complaint, the DSP threatened to have him jailed on fabricated charges.

The police have taken cognisance of the case, and senior officials have ordered a preliminary inquiry into the allegations. A special team is expected to verify the electronic evidence provided by the complainant.

DSP Denies Allegations, Calls It a Conspiracy

Responding to the allegations, DSP Kalpana Verma denied any wrongdoing, describing the claims as “baseless and politically motivated.” She asserted that she is being targeted as part of a deliberate attempt to malign her reputation and stated she is “ready to cooperate with any level of investigation.”

Verma added that she had known the businessman socially but rejected any suggestion of financial or personal misconduct. “The allegations are a fabricated conspiracy to defame me,” she told reporters.

Senior Officials Begin Internal Review

Following media reports, Chhattisgarh Police headquarters has reportedly taken note of the controversy and ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter. Officials have confirmed that any disciplinary action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has triggered widespread debate within the police department and among the public, raising concerns about professional ethics and potential misuse of authority.
