Dehradun — In a week marked by rising digital deception, three residents of Dehradun were defrauded of more than ₹5.13 lakh through policy-renewal frauds, fake parcel delivery alerts, and a credit-card issuance scam. Police have registered separate cases and begun investigations as cybercriminals continue to widen their reach across Uttarakhand’s capital.

According to police records, the first complaint came from Meenu Marwah of Balliwala Chowk, Vasant Vihar. She told officers that she had purchased a Max Axis Life Insurance policy through a Policy Bazaar agent in 2024. When she failed to pay the second installment, due in September 2025, she began receiving repeated phone calls and messages.

One call, allegedly from a “customer support center,” informed her that her policy was on the verge of cancellation but could be revived if she paid the premium by the evening of October 17. The caller promised that policy benefits would continue and that she would receive 12 percent cashback. After providing her bank account and IFSC details, Marwah discovered that ₹1 lakh had been withdrawn without consent.

In another case, Ayush Uniyal of Shastrinagar, Vasant Vihar, reported receiving an SMS on October 22 regarding a parcel delivery. Once he clicked the link embedded in the message, ₹1,53,298 was debited from his credit card. Uniyal immediately blocked the card, but the loss had already occurred.

Credit Card Application Turns Into a Scam

A third victim, Pratap Chauhan of Ram Vatika, East Hope Town, said he had applied for a credit card on October 31. The next day, a caller claiming to represent ICICI Bank asked him to verify his information through a link. As soon as he entered his details, ₹2,59,669 vanished from his bank account.

Police Face Growing Wave of Cybercrime

All three cases were registered at the Vasant Vihar police station, where officials acknowledged that cybercriminal networks are expanding rapidly in Dehradun, targeting insurance customers, online shoppers, and new credit-card applicants. Investigators are tracing the digital footprints behind the fraudulent calls and links.

Police officials urged residents to avoid clicking unknown links, sharing bank details, or responding to unsolicited calls claiming to be from banks, parcel services, or insurance platforms.
