In a major crackdown on financial irregularities and corruption within government departments, the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has uncovered a multi-crore land compensation scam in Anantnag district and filed a chargesheet against 10 accused individuals.

According to an official statement, the chargesheet was filed in FIR No. 12/2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act before the Court of the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Anantnag.

Fake Land Acquisition Records Used to Embezzle Public Funds

The investigation revealed that the accused individuals fraudulently withdrew government compensation meant for land acquisition by creating fictitious records during the construction of the Verinag–Kokernag road via Batagund. The compensation amounts were illegally disbursed in the names of non-existent beneficiaries, whose lands were falsely shown as acquired by the government.

Officials from the Revenue Department — including the then Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Girdawar, and Patwari of Dooru — allegedly conspired with private individuals to forge and manipulate revenue records to facilitate the fraudulent disbursement of funds. The forged entries were made to obtain wrongful financial gains, causing a significant loss to the state exchequer and undermining public trust.

Evidence-Based Action by Economic Offences Wing

Following a thorough investigation and the collection of documentary and witness evidence, the Economic Offences Wing filed the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial determination.

A CBK spokesperson stated:

“This action reflects our firm commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration. The department remains dedicated to bringing all individuals involved in economic offences to justice.”

The case highlights not only the misuse of public funds but also exposes how corruption and document forgery continue to plague grassroots governance and development projects. The CBK’s action marks a strong step toward restoring integrity and public confidence in Jammu and Kashmir’s administrative systems.
