New Delhi- Perplexity has officially launched its Comet AI browser in India, marking a new chapter in AI-assisted web browsing. Currently available exclusively to Perplexity Pro subscribers, the company positions Comet not merely as a browser but as a “thinking partner” capable of managing users’ complete digital workflows.
Built on Chromium, Comet AI features a continuously active AI sidebar. It can handle multi-step workflows such as comparing product prices, scheduling meetings, drafting and sending emails, and completing online transactions on behalf of users. The browser also supports document summarization and project tracking across multiple tabs.
Comet AI is available for Windows and macOS, with pre-orders for Android already open and iOS support expected soon.

Perplexity co-founder and CEO Arvind Srinivas highlighted the browser’s unique positioning: “Comet is not just a standard browser; it is your thoughtful companion for digital work. We call this the ‘browsing to thinking’ shift.”
To accelerate adoption in India, Perplexity has partnered with Airtel, providing millions of Airtel users with free one-year access to Perplexity Pro. The company is also hiring locally, signaling a long-term investment in India’s tech ecosystem.
Privacy and Security
Perplexity has emphasized privacy as a cornerstone of Comet AI. The browser employs end-to-end encryption by default and stores browsing history and AI interactions locally. It integrates with password managers and comes with enterprise-grade compliance features, catering to both businesses and individual users.
Cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Professor Triveni Singh commented on the launch: “AI browsers like Comet can significantly enhance productivity, but users must remain vigilant about security and digital hygiene. India’s digital market is growing rapidly, and privacy-conscious tools are essential.”
Experts note that India’s fast-expanding digital economy is becoming a competitive arena for AI-powered tools. By introducing Comet AI first in India, Perplexity hopes to stand out with a product that goes beyond answering queries—it can manage entire workflows.
“Comet AI is taking a bold step in redefining browsing in India,” said a technology analyst. “It’s positioned to be more than just an internet browser; it can become a productive companion for both personal and professional users.”
