Fake Microsoft Tech Support Scam Busted in Rajasthan: 13 Arrested

The Mandawa police in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district have unearthed an international cyber fraud racket operating from a hotel situated on the Fatehpur bypass.

The operation, led under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sharad Choudhary, resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals, including three women, who were running a sophisticated scam targeting foreign nationals.

The gang, masquerading as employees of tech giant Microsoft and claiming to be based in Washington, USA, contacted American citizens under the guise of offering technical support. The fraudsters lured victims into downloading remote access software like “Ultra Viewer,” which allowed them to gain unauthorized access to their computers. Once inside, the scammers stole sensitive personal information and carried out fraudulent transactions.

During the raid, police recovered 21 laptops, 21 mobile phones, and other digital equipment used in the crime. The accused also utilized advanced tools like iBeam, Micro SIP, and Turbo VPN to manipulate calls, breach systems, and access banking credentials of their victims.

Those arrested belong to different parts of the country, including Manipur, Nagaland, Darjeeling, Delhi, and Mizoram, highlighting the pan-India nature of the operation. The arrested individuals have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Constable Vikram Singh played a crucial role in uncovering the scam, aiding in the success of the operation. Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the extent of the fraud and identify other possible accomplices.

The bust serves as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics of cybercriminals and the need for continued vigilance in tackling tech-enabled financial crimes.
