During a call on September 30, the woman took off her clothes and asked the young person to do the same. Later, the cyber criminal demanded the young man for money and threatened to post his naked video on social media if he didn’t get it.
At the Sahakar Nagar police station, a case has been registered. Police from the Pune cyber cell say that sextortion and getting money from people by threatening them has become more popular.
In 2021, 685 complaints were sent to the cyber cell, and four cases were filed. The police said that no complaints had been made about sextortion in 2020 because it was considered a cybercrime.
The Pune cybercrime unit has received 1,445 complaints about sextortion so far this year (through September 2022), but only one case has been filed.
Kumar Ghadge, a police inspector from Pune’s cyber cell, said, “Many times, people don’t file a case because they don’t want to be judged.” But the best way to deal with these kinds of trouble makers is to report them to the police.”
He told young people to be careful when they talk to strangers on social media.
