Maharashtra To Now Pay Internship Stipend To Forensic Science UG, PG Students

NAGPUR: The Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday decided to begin internships with stipends in Forensic Science Laboratories for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students studying at Government Institutes of Forensic Science.

Dilip Walse-Patil, the Maharashtra Home Minister, stated during a visit to the Nagpur Forensic Science Laboratory that he wanted students studying Forensic Science to get jobs. He also explored the possibility of providing stipends for internships to UG and PG students.

Later, the Home Department submitted a recommendation to the government. Cabinet unveiled the plan on Wednesday, moving rapidly on it. According to the decision, 150 UG and PG forensic science students from the State’s forensic science institutes will be engaged as interns on scholarships for one-year period in various laboratories around the State under the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories each year.

The State Government currently operates three forensic science institutes in Mumbai, Aurangabad, and Nagpur. Walse-Patil believed that there were not enough job options for Forensic Science graduates; nevertheless, internships can be a great chance because students will gain hands-on experience.

Three forensic science institutes in the state will recommend students each year.

The Director-General will have authority over these students (Judicial and Technical). Students chosen for internships will be expected to perform the duties and responsibilities allocated to the positions of Scientific Assistant (Group-C) and Scientific Assistant (Cyber Crime) (Group-C) in Forensic Science Laboratories. Students who successfully complete their internship will receive a diploma from the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories.

“The students’ hostels and some residential quarters are part of the University’s first phase development work at Waranga,” stated Dr Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of MNLU in Nagpur.

“We received administrative approval in March 2021, but financial backing was critical. The High Power Committee reviewed the specifics and granted financial approval. It’s a huge relief for us. We thank the Maharashtra government, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, and Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant for this decision,” Kumar added.

The issue has been pending for three months, and MNLU is now relieved. There will be 700 students in total, with 350 students in each of the two hostel buildings. Apart from hostels and residential quarters, there will be a bank where residents from local villages can use the services of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-N), which is part of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU). 60 acres of land in Mauja Waranga had already been set aside for this purpose.
