The security measures adopted by the world’s biggest online shopping portal are in question after Noida based advocate as registered an FIR against Amazon. Complainant claims that her Amazon Prime account was hacked and despite assurance from company’s CEO Jeff Bezos, the problem continues.

A Supreme Court lawyer, Surabhi Aggarwal has approached Noida sector 20 police station after the IT team of Amazon India and office of Jeff Bezos failed to resolve the issue of the complainant’s account hack. Aggarwal claims if the problem continues then she will get a named FIR registered against Bezos.

According to the FIR registered by Aggarwal, it was in February when she bought an Amazon Prime membership by paying Rs 999, which is valid for the next year.

It was in August when she started facing issue with her subscription. She could not access her account and she contacted the customer care support.

She was shocked to know that her registered email id was changed in the month of June. The company official claims that she was informed about this via email, however, Aggarwal in her FIR has denied getting any intimation from the online shopping giant.

Surabhi was then informed that Amazon will be suspending/disabling her account to carry out investigation about the unauthorised activities being reported by her.

During her multiple conversations with Amazon executives, Surabhi was told that another name and address of Omkar from Madhya Pradesh has been added to her Amazon account.
“I was assured by the Amazon executives that they will investigate the matter and inform me in the next 48 hours, but instead of this, I got a reminder email from Amazon to clear Amazon Pay later payment,” Surabhi said. Amazon is now asking me to clear my pending payments which I have never done and I have not activated Amazon Pay Later on my account, she added.

Tired from replies from Indian customer support, Surabhi shot a mail to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos explaining the whole incident. Three days later, on August 11, she received a mail from the office of Jeff Bezos’s office stating that her Amazon account security breach issue has been investigated and resolved.

“I was never informed about the results of the investigation conducted by Amazon, or my query being resolved as my Amazon account continues to remain suspended and I continue to receive the Amazon Pay Later repayment,” Surabhi said in her FIR.

An FIR of unauthorized and illegal use of Amazon Prime services was registered at Noida sector 20 police station and cops are investigating the matter. An email has been sent to Amazon India for their comment on the issue. Will update the story with their comment.
