Amid rising concerns over cyber threats, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a stern advisory to the Chandigarh administration, urging strict compliance with national cybersecurity protocols to safeguard critical ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructure.

“With the recent developments, it was observed that the possibilities of cyber-attacks on ICT infrastructure and applications have gone up,” the ministry stated. “It is essential to keep a close watch and ensure round-the-clock surveillance of all digital assets.”

UT Issues Advisory Across Departments

Following the Centre’s warning, the Chandigarh IT Department issued a compliance advisory to all heads of departments. Given the heavy reliance on digital platforms especially for financial operations the risk exposure is high.

The ministry’s letter emphasized the mandatory implementation of security guidelines, covering areas such as:

  • Endpoint and application security
  • Network and infrastructure defense
  • Email protection
  • Business continuity planning
  • Cyber crisis response
  • Awareness and training
  • NIC Offers 24/7 Cyber Support

To assist in threat mitigation, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has activated its 24×7 cyber control room, offering real-time assistance to all UT departments.
