Worried If Your Gmail Account Is Hacked? Here Are Quick 5 Ways To Check And Protect It

NEW DELHI: Gmail, often known as a Google account, is one of the most frequently used email services, which makes it a prominent target for hackers. Despite Google’s best-in-class security and safety protections, we’ve witnessed instances of Google accounts being hacked in the past.

A Google account holds vital information such as personal, professional, and financial details such as credit/debit card, phone number, and so on, and is commonly used in a variety of places such as setting up a new smartphone or accessing or logging into a website.

If it is hacked, the hacker will have access to all of the information stored in the Google account.

The challenge is how to determine whether or not the Google account has been hacked. In this post, we’ll show you a couple of methods for determining whether or not your computer has been hacked.

Use the Google Password Checker tool to check your passwords.

The first step is to determine whether or not your Google account password is secure. Google has a password checker tool for this. This programme checks the account’s saved passwords, including the Google account password, and determines whether or not they have been compromised.

It also tells you whether you need to establish a new password or change your current one.

You can use the tool by going to https://passwords.google.com/. Click the ‘go to password manager’ option on the page.

Look for any suspicious recent login actions.

For increased protection to Google accounts, Google usually prompts users to setup two-factor authentication. However, even if everything has been done perfectly, things might still go wrong. Go to ‘https://myaccount.google.com/notifications‘ and search for any unusual login activity.

This page will provide all of the login activities for the Google account in the previous 28 days. There’s a probability your account has been hijacked if you notice login activity from an unfamiliar place.

For example, if you live in New Delhi and discover that someone has signed into your Google account from a foreign or strange place, it’s a clue that your account has been hacked.

Examine your Google account for any suspicious gadgets.

Someone must be using your Google account on a device if it has been hacked. Users can look at a list of devices that are linked to their Google accounts.

To do so, go to https://myaccount.google.com/security and scroll down to the section under “Your Devices.” You’ll need to look here to see if your Google Account is linked to any strange devices. If you answered yes, there’s a good possibility it’s been hacked.

Check your Google account to see if any strange apps or websites are being used.

Google, like other devices, allows users to see which websites and apps are linked to their account.

Look for any suspicious apps or websites that you aren’t familiar with. If you discover anything odd, the very least you should do is reset your password and log out of any web sessions.

Check to see whether your emails are being automatically forwarded to other email addresses.

Gmail has a function that allows users to forward every email they receive to another email address. Hackers are likely to take advantage of this function in order to obtain all of your emails.

To test this, navigate to Gmail Settings -> Forwarding and POP/IMAP and see whether any random email addresses are included in the Forwarding section. If so, uninstall it and change your account password.
