Pune: A former female project manager at Wipro’s Hinjawadi office has accused senior colleagues of religious harassment, mental intimidation and pressuring her to change her faith, prompting police to begin an inquiry into the complaint. Wipro has said it is reviewing the matter through internal processes and has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination and harassment.

Former Employee Alleges Workplace Pressure

According to the complainant, she worked at Wipro between 2019 and 2025 and faced repeated instances of mental stress during that period. She alleged that certain senior managers and team leaders targeted her over her religious beliefs and encouraged her to adopt the practices of a particular faith.

The former employee claimed that the pressure initially appeared through conversations and suggestions but later became more persistent. She alleged that after she resisted, the attitude of colleagues and supervisors toward her changed, and she was subjected to repeated remarks about her faith, creating a hostile workplace environment.

Complaint Mentions Forced Resignation

The complainant further alleged that she was warned of negative performance reviews if she did not comply. She also claimed that threats were made regarding her job security and professional standing within the organisation.

According to her complaint, the alleged harassment eventually forced her to resign. She said she had first approached the company’s internal grievance mechanisms but did not receive the relief she expected. She later approached local police authorities and the Human Rights Commission with her allegations.

Police officials have confirmed that the complaint contains serious allegations that are under examination. The application reportedly names a senior female official accused of making objectionable remarks and pressuring the complainant to resign.

Wipro Says It Is Cooperating With Probe

Investigators are reviewing statements, documentary evidence and company records to determine the facts of the case. Authorities are also expected to examine what action, if any, was taken through Wipro’s internal mechanisms after the employee raised her complaint.

Wipro, in its response, said employee dignity, respect and safety remain among its highest priorities. The company stated that it has a strict zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination, harassment or any conduct that undermines individual rights and freedoms.

The company also said it is cooperating with law enforcement authorities and providing relevant information required for the investigation. Since the matter is under inquiry, Wipro said it would not comment on specific allegations but reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful workplace.

Police are continuing to record statements from relevant parties. The outcome of the inquiry will determine the credibility of the allegations and whether any legal action follows.
