New Delhi — WhatsApp has introduced a new threaded messaging feature in its Android beta version 2.25.25.8, designed to make conversations more structured and easier to follow. The update aims to help users track message context more efficiently, particularly in busy group chats where multiple topics often overlap.
How the Feature Works
According to WABetaInfo, the update includes a redesigned reply system. When a user responds to a message, a thread is automatically generated under the original message. Within the thread, all related replies are displayed, preventing users from scrolling through unrelated messages in the main chat.
A reply indicator appears within the message bubble, showing the number of responses linked to that thread. Users can open the thread to view the full series of messages and respond directly to any specific reply. The feature also supports “follow-up replies,” preserving conversational continuity and context.

Cybersecurity Perspective
On the security front, former IPS officer and cybersecurity expert Professor Triveni Singh warned,
“Threaded messaging features enhance clarity and organization, but they also create new opportunities for cybercriminals. If users are not vigilant, phishing, fraud, and other cyber threats could exploit these features.”
Professor Singh emphasized caution, advising users to avoid clicking on suspicious links, refrain from following instructions from unknown contacts, and ensure their devices remain secure. “Technically adept criminals may see these new features as an additional vector for exploitation,” he added.
Purpose and Benefits
WhatsApp aims to make conversations clearer and more organized. The threaded reply system allows users to view previous conversations in chronological order, understanding the context of each reply. Experts believe the feature will reduce confusion and misunderstandings not only in group chats but also in individual messaging.
Future Plans
Reports indicate that WhatsApp is also developing the feature for iOS. The company intends for the threaded messaging system to be available across all platforms, providing users with a smoother and more structured messaging experience.
