New Delhi, June 10 – The case of dismissed IPS officer Manilal Patidar has once again come under the spotlight as the Supreme Court of India heard his bail plea and granted time to the Uttar Pradesh government to file its response. The apex court has listed the matter for the next hearing on July 17, 2025. Patidar, a 2014 batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been in judicial custody since 2022, facing serious charges under multiple sections of the IPC, including abetment to suicide, corruption, and criminal conspiracy.
The case stems from the alleged suicide of a Mahoba-based businessman, Indrakant Tripathi, who had accused Patidar, then serving as Superintendent of Police, Mahoba, of demanding bribes and harassing him. Tripathi had released a video before his death in September 2020, levelling direct allegations against Patidar. Days later, he was found shot and succumbed to injuries. The incident sparked a political and public outcry, leading to Patidar’s suspension and eventual dismissal from service.

The Uttar Pradesh Police later filed an FIR, and after a period of absconding, Patidar was arrested and has remained in jail since 2022. Despite multiple legal attempts, he has failed to secure bail. The Supreme Court’s ongoing scrutiny of his bail plea underscores the gravity of the charges and the state’s firm stance.
This case now serves as a stark reminder to all serving IPS officers: no one is above the law. It highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and lawful conduct while discharging official duties. As Patidar’s legal battle continues, it acts as a cautionary tale for officers to stay within the bounds of legality and uphold the integrity of the uniform.
