A shocking salary scam has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s health department, raising questions about both administrative functioning and the quality of healthcare services. The legitimacy of 403 X-ray technicians appointed in 2016 by the Subordinate Services Selection Commission is now under investigation.
How the scam surfaced
Investigators found that six technicians were drawing salaries since 2016 using the identity and documents of a single individual. The probe further revealed that four of the appointees shared the same permanent address, while two others had different ones, pointing towards massive irregularities in the recruitment process.
A risk beyond financial fraud
Health officials stressed that this case is not just about corruption in salaries but also a direct threat to patient safety. Secretary of the Directorate of Medical Health, Ashok Kumar, said, “If untrained people are working as technicians, patients’ lives are at serious risk.”
The department has not yet filed an FIR but has ordered a comprehensive probe into all 403 appointments. Officials assured that once responsibility is fixed, strict action will be taken against those involved in the fraudulent recruitment.

Experts argue that the scam reflects deeper flaws in the system. Administrative affairs analyst Dr. Anil Shukla remarked, “This incident shows that recruitment is not only plagued by corruption but also by political pressures. Ultimately, the quality of services in hospitals is compromised, and it is the common citizens who suffer the most.”
A systemic failure
The revelations highlight how weak oversight and lack of transparency in recruitment can endanger both government finances and public health. With hundreds of appointments now under the scanner, the case could become one of the biggest recruitment scams in the state’s health sector in recent years.
